Not true Altis actually lost to Civic during that time as Civic have much sporty looks & better GB, nothing to do with Korean car, those day only Avante & Spectra which nobody want & end up throwing huge discount.
NASA also did the same thing, first batch Forte only coms with 4 speed GB, then instantly change to 6 speed GB, same go K5 change their engine from Theta2 to Nu why don't u go bising in lowyat forum ?
U think mfg care what lowyat forum said ah.? Most of those forum member there can't afford Camry, there just make noise like crow.

Your brain only limited to local is it? People look into overall where Forte was competing with Altis in Singapore, Australia, NZ, US and even China and Cambodia. In Singaland, Forte was once ranked 3rd best seller. Even here, Forte was in top10 list every month from 2010 until 2010 and also 2011 until Elantra MD appeared.
Toyota only reacts by then to counter Forte by giving more quality parts such as improved suspension, new dual VVTi engine and new gearbox in FL. Toyota doesn't look at Honda as main threat as it lacks the tough suspension, durability and reliability to survive rough road condition. Hyundai-Kia do and they can be used in hot desert with harsh condition.
Hyundai-Kia 6AT gearbox was still in development in Tucson ix35 prototype when Forte already done testing and entered production. That time they sourced their gearbox from JATCO, yet they are willing to buy the stronger more advanced 4AT at its time in 2004 fitted in Elantra '06, Cerato '06, Ceed '06, i30 '06 followed by Forte that first sold in Korea in 2008 and then elsewhere in 2009.
