So which one will you go for? I'll go for Ranger 2.2L. At RM98k??? Wow, pickup trucks are getting more and more expensive lately. At first, RM90k, then RM95k and now getting RM100k mark.s Getting greedy? Too bad, the new Ford Ranger contest is giving away manual, else I would participate and try my luck.

Let's wait for the physical arrival of ranger & presumably in June, the can better decide. Personally besides white & silver colour, maybe it time to go for other but no black. Frankly ranger stands tall in list.

Old Triton RM95k and New Triton RM105k added VGT turbocharger charging us RM10k extra just for the turbocharger? Wow, that is greedy. VGT price the most including markup is half more than the non VGT turbocharger. Yet reduced the bed length some more, that won't be able to make full use of the VGT for commercial use. Should make the bed size optional. This is totally wrong. MMC should make the VGT compulsory for 2.5L and 3.2L. Cars today must have VVT so for turbocharged diesel too must have VGT.

the bed getting smaller ould be because more and more people buy for normal daily use, style maybe. still the rear seat can't be move or adjust.

I saw the new Ranger low spec with steel rim probably owned by SD industrial staff driving around on the road already. Does this mean the launch date will be closer than in June? Also the win a Ranger competition ends by end of March. Hope they'll launch the new Ranger next month. Plus, some already spotted first batch of Rangers already arrived near the dock.

Besides the Ranger, we have another heavy weight contender from Chevy, taken from another forumner, forgot his username:
The Estimated Nett Selling Price for the 3 variants of the Chevrolet Colorado are :-

2.8AT LTZ RM 103,888
2.8MT LT RM 93,888
2.5MT LT RM 88,888

* Pen. Malaysia Price
* Price without Insurance/Roadtax, etc...

Launching date suppose to be end of this month.

-----------------------------------------------

Only thing is that the Colorado is tuned lower with more focus towards FC. New D-Max too will follow suit. Good, time for pickup trucks to grow in size for the new batches. Volkswagen Amok too will launch soon.

Hi byebye2u,

Yes, there are more private owners nowadays, having the smaller bed is sufficient for them. I think they have the larger bed variant as per the photos in AW articles. Probably they have optional for small or big.

2.5MT LT RM 88,888
0-100km/h in 12.2s with 5spd manual gearbox

Road tax 2.2L MYR580, 2.5L MYR880, 3.0L MYR2,130 and 3.2L MYR3,030.

Just read the article on Triton and also the Colorado brochures on specs passed with photos taken by my colleagues who checked out the new Colorado. The specs shows that the Colorado is designed towards FC with normal pulling power. The acceleration in auto is 1 second faster than the manual thanks to its advanced 6AT gearbox that superseded the manual gearbox. No mistake on the brochure according to my buddies. Interior width is good, legroom is good, headroom also good. Bed size, dept just average, the width is wider than all on the list but the length, the old Ranger wins. Triton's bed is long but not deep enough.

If MMC wanted to survive in the pickup truck competition, they really have to standardized the VGT in 2.5L and 3.2L without much price increment. Maybe RM98k for 2.5L VGT (A) and RM108k for 3.2L VGT (A) as the new contenders from Chevy, Isuzu and Ford are considered superior. 2.5L VGT with 350Nm is just normal for today's standard, the rules have changed as time passed. It'll be do or die in automotive industry, no compromise.

Triton 3.2L will be replaced by the 2.5L VGT. Good Chevy and Mazda (VW also) joining the race... then have more choices....

don't mind paying one-time upfront for the truck (because those you bring home) but looking on the roadtax, it is a bit too much. say you keep the truck for 5 years, you need to fork MYR4,400 before disposing the 2.5L truck but for 3.2L, you need to invest MYR15,150 out of the window. frankly, I heard so much about ranger NVH and that was one of appetizing reason and then queston is whether I really need the hype of HP (hap remappd the original 136 HP in current use) for urban driving or I can settle 2.2L. The deal breaker for 2.2L is depending how many items being removed compare to 3.2L. If they can fitted all those items in 3.2L as optional, then 2.2L will be my preference.
