My Evasion engine gave way and had to replace it due to a worn crankshaft,
FYI, the engine IS not the same as Xantia or ZX, but only has the same CC, even the gaskets are not the same,
I had one sourced from the XM 2 litre.which is same,
So don't be confused by people who don't know their facts.
magicride, what is the engine code for yr evasion?
xantia and zx uses XU10 and the earlier ZX ones also use XU9.

Kasi revive this old thread... hahahah
Just got myself a 1995 ZX 2.0 Manual for RM4k 3 days ago. Quite some things to fix but so far it's moving about ok.
Priority:
The air con is shot. Not because it doesn't work or blows hot air. Far from it. Like they say, sejuk menggigil. But something is wrong with the switch cos it's permanently stuck on the highest setting and recirculate mode. No fresh air and when its at night, freezing wei.

The brakes are gone. I'm suspecting worn brake pads cos the car still stops albeit slowly. Gonna check if the brake fuild's been topped up. If it's that easy a fix then all ok. Otherwise gotta get them brakepads fast. Is it Valeo or TRM? How much would a set (Front RH & LH) cost? Terrifying when you're travelling fast

The hatch struts are kaput. Need to replace them else the entire hatch decapitates me when I stick my head into the trunk to get stuff. Also, I need to find me a complete set of tools for tyre changing. Got the spare (quite surprise it was mounted below the car like my mum's Alza), the jack and the lever for twisting the nut to lower the spare. Nothing to cungkil the rim caps and to remove the nuts. Know where I can get them?
Good to fix but can live with:
The steering stalks are a bit tatty. Will need to clean them up some.
My ZX still has the original Citroen cassette player. Gonna change that. Anyone feeling nostalgic and wants to have it? Doesn't work tho. Else I'd chuck it away when I change the HU.
Air con vents seem to have their anchors broken liao. Flimsy and loose so a ride over a pothole would redirect the air con flow. Do they sell replacements for these?

The dash is surprisingly still in one piece with no cracks or raised plastics unlike what I've been reading. The plastic parts tho are brittle and breaking.
Instrument panel isn't very bright and the brightness adjustment switch isn't working.
Right now I have 2 keys - one to open the door and one to start the car. Would be great if it was just one single key instead. Can anyone advise if I can change the starter to use the door key (which I suspect is the original one)
Central locking is working sans alarm. Will need to get one.
Driver side interior handle is wonky. When pulled to open the door, it stays in the 'pulled' position instead of returning flush back in it's slot waiting to be pulled again. Might be a spring loose somewhere.
Panel underneath the steering doesn't screw back flush and some insulation above the pedals are falling through. Doesn't affect pedal action much but sometimes I'd feel my left shoe brushing against the insulation. Gotta get the mechanic to look into this when I send it for it's first service.

A new coat of paint and rear spoiler reinstalled properly cos now it's impeding the movement of the rear wiper.
Anyone knows what the lower right button on the meter frame does? It's the one below your spotlight button.
Speaking of which, I'm staying in Taman Connaught Cheras. Where would be the recommended place to fix my car? Spare parts shop too.

Even though Im no longer own a zx or citroen but just wanna share my experience.
For aircond I suggest u go to AhMeng at Jln TAR. He is good with Citroen aircond. Sometimes a little mod will works.
Brake pad - TRW is good enough. I also use this brand for my C5. Probably around RM150. Not sure abt the price. Change the brake fluid as well. Check the rear brake pads. There is one small piece (about 1" long) angled plate that support the brake pads. The plate was secured by cotter pins. The plate can easily came off if the pins is missing and cause the pads to move out from the caliper.
Before you buy a new strut, I suggest you try this. While the hatch at full open (get a piece of wood to hold the hatch), hold the strut at centre position and slightly pull it downward (it is like trying to bend the strut rod). Dont pull too much.A slight bend is good enough. This will cause the rod to bend and will stop the movement inside the cylinder and hold the hatch. Anyway the strut already kong. Just give a try. If its work then u can save some RM. New strut is probably RM150-200 a pc. Used strut probably RM100.
There is one potong kereta shop at segambut after Nissan and petrol station (Kagawa). I bought many C5 and Merc parts there. Price is OK. it depends on yr nego skill.

Went there on Sat morning. Got lost cos stupid google maps took me to taman hillview instead. Relied on Waze and found EXD. Met Sham. Nice chappie. The place also quite chill la. Like your hometown workshop where things take on a slower pace. Sham was great. Took the time to sort out my problem (the spongy/no brake) feel. Apparently the normal ZX brakepads and calipers are small. Like Kancil small pads. Changed it to a pair of 206 GTi discs and pads Sham happened to have lying about his shop smile_tongue.gif
Result - Much better braking feel and stopping. But still some way from what I'm used to in Jap cars. No eyeball to windscreen braking tho. Sham says mebbe it's the thickness of the disc themselves, being used item and all. So those are the next on my list to fix. Happy that now I can stop better.
206 GTi Calipers & Disc (Used) - 300
RHS Ball Heel - 50
Total - 350
The patrons are more like family there. I absolutely love it. Friends come with their kids. The kids go up to the pakciks and kiss their faces and their hands. Everyone chit chats about what they're gonna fish or go tracking. Caused me to feel warm and fuzzy. smile_thumbup.gif
One complain tho. He's too fehmes. Lotsa people coming to him to fix their cars. When my car was getting fixed, there were already 5 other patrons waiting IN LINE. That's it! Everyone was patiently waiting for their turn. Chatting with each other while waiting. Awesome camaraderie and attitude. Makes me that much happier to be a Malaysian. smile_approve.gif
Am gonna pay Sham a visit next week to get my timing belt and stuff changed. Oh.. and the air con too if possible.

Need some info about the price of parts for my timing belt + first service later.
What's the price of a ZX 2.0 8v timing belt? Cos I got quoted RM230 and RM90. Too big a difference to decide on which.
Also need to know the prices for:
1) Fan belt
2) Water Pump
3) Radiator 2 layer
Oh ya.. what's the engine oil spec for the ZX? 10W - 40?
Liquid Moly or Torco? About RM150 for LiquidMoly (5L) and RM120 Torco (4L)
Add-on:
Some quotes I've gotten
timing belt original RM90
fan belt original RM90
oil seal oem RM85
water pump original RM310 oem RM230
bearing oem RM70
Timing belt kit (belt & tensioner) 230
Rear hatch struts 200/pair <--------- very near to your guess lingomalingo

Brake pads front 150, rear 120
Water pump 180 & radiator (2 layers) 750

Another Saturday morning spent at EXD Auto. Was there about 10. Sham was talking to an ice cream guy. Eating his ice cream at 10am. His staff came and asked him why, he said 'Sebab Batuk' and mock coughed a bit. Hillarious!

It's fortunate that I arrived early. A few patrons came by after me and they had to wait until Sham finished working on my car before theirs could be looked into.

Since mine was the 8v, it was a walk in the park for the sifu. Think he could've probably done it blindfolded. Hehehe. Relaxed atmosphere with him chatting with all patrons. Took a bit longer than required but that's his style and I'm ok with it. Rushing to get the job done might've been counter-productive; he may miss somethings

Worked done:
Timing Belt - 130
Timing Bearing - 85
Cam Seal - 40
Crank Seal - 40
Timing Gear (bottom) - 30
Engine Oil (Elf 203-50 cos I'm gonna change the oil again around 1000km) - 60
Oil Filter - 25
Workmanship - 90
Total - 500
Job finished around 1pm.
Next visit:
Air conditioning switch
Handbrake cable

Went over to EXD on a wet Sat morning. Reached there around 11am. Sham was out. His staff said he'll be back later that afternoon. Can't wait so didn't get my air con fixed.

The car seems a bit more thirsty with the 20W-50 oil. This tankful got me only 390kms. Previously it was around 430km. Hope to get better mileage when I change the oil again. Plan to use LiquidMoly 10W-40. My aim is to get as near to 500km/tankful as I can. The average tankful so far is about RM100 or circa 42 liters.
Got a silicone wiper to replace the front wiper which was streaking the windshield. Didn't like the 22" original length as the tip of the blade gets over the glass and onto the windshield moulding. So I got a 20" which wipes about an inch shorter in radius. Gotta wait until the next rainfall to see if it's better to be shorter. Much cleaner and clearer view now tho.

Am thinking to remove the back double deck spoiler. The double sided tape is old and as such the fixture is sagging, impeding on the back wiper's movement. Thing is, do I just pull it off, or is there like some screws holding it in place?

Oh yes, before I forget... can any accessory shop just install a car alarm to the ZX or is there some quirks which requires it to be done by a Citroen knowledgeable person? Same question goes for the installation for the ICE Head unit.
Mucho Gracias, Amigoes!
