The 3 Generation 3 truck tyres recently launched by Continental Tyre Malaysia (CTM) – the Conti Hybrid HS3, Conti Hybrid HT3 and ContiUrban HA3 offer 3 great benefits to commercial vehicle owners.

According to Mr Cameron Wilson, Managing Director of Continental Tyre Malaysia, this new generation of heavy-duty commercial tyres are individually designed and developed to suit different axles and the road conditions in Asia, particularly Southeast Asia. As such, these Generation 3 tyres offer (1) improved mileage performance, (2) fuel efficiency and (3) retreadability.

The Generation 3 tyres are manufactured at the modern Continental Tyre facility in Petaling Jaya using compounds developed for use on Asian roads. As mentioned, these tyres are designed for specific purposes and loads on specific axles of a heavy duty vehicle so unlike passenger car tyres which can be interchanged between front and rear axles, these cannot and should not, unless otherwise specified.

Continental CHS3
Conti Hybrid HS3 with retread indicator

Conti Hybrid HS3 – This tyre is made for use by container hauliers, auto carriers, hazmat tankers, general and  as well as for refrigerated goods carriers on regional roads and major motorways. This steer axle tyre has an improved casing and greater steel cord strength for better sidewall robustness and retreadability. The new and straight outer grooves also provide precise steering feedback while the stone ejection feature and heat endurance is improved over the previous generation tyre.

The new Conti Hybrid HS3 22.5 showed an impressive increase of 20% in mileage performance (lasting a longer distance) and improved fuel economy of up to 6%. Wet performance also remained consistent over the life of the tyre due to improved sipe depth thus making this tyre cost-effective and safe.

Conti Hybrid HT3Conti Hybrid HT3 – This tyre is designed for the trailer axle and is suitable for the same application and vehicles as the Conti Hybrid HS3. It features an improved tread pattern for optimum, even wear, 25% more steel in the carcass and superior heat endurance and durability thanks to new belt technology and cord construction. The high value casing of this tyre also offers premium retreadability and multiple tyre lives.

ContiUrban HA3Conti Urban HA3 – The tyre is designed especially for buses in an urban environment to tackle narrow streets, curbs and stop-go traffic. The new urban tread compound and greater tread width allows this tyre to give up to 20% more mileage and 2% better fuel consumption over its predecessor. Additionally, the wider tread ribs, high-density interlocking sipes, increased cut resistance and enhanced wet braking performance, give bus drivers better cornering stability in different weather conditions while offering passengers a smoother and safer ride. These tyres are optimised for urban use and sustained highway speeds could cause premature wear.

These 3 new tyres are available in the popular sizes of their respective segments.

At the launch of Continental’s Generation 3 tyres, CTM also introduced the HDR2+ tyre which is designed for regional and long-distance applications catering to the goods segment. Its advanced tread design and specialized wear resistant compound, gives this drive axle tyre 25% more mileage compared to the previous HDR1 and maintaining performance in the wet over the tyre life.

Further, the Generation 3 tyres are also included in Continental’s C3 Conti Casing Warranty which is the company’s confidence and assurance of the quality of its tyres. Essentially, the company provides warranty for 3 ‘lives’ of the tyre (from brand new through 2 retreads), which can span up to 6 years. The tyre retreading can be done at a dedicated section by trained personnel in Continental’s Petaling Jaya plant or authorized Continental retread partners.

These tyres are available at CTM dealerships nationwide i.e. BestDrive, Continental, Dunlop Klinikar, Viking Stores and also via direct sales to fleets.

At the recent launch, Continental also previewed the Conti Pressure Check tyre pressure monitoring system. This tyre pressure and temperature sensor system was recently launched in Bangkok and is expected to launch in Malaysia soon. This system can be paired to a subscription-based 3rd party service to monitor and track your vehicle fleet in real time via web browser, smartphone or tablet, to improve efficiency and reduce operating cost.

L-R: Mr Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMWT, Mr Kenichi Yoshioka, Chief Engineer, Toyota Motor Corporation and Datuk Ismet Suki, President of UMW Toyota Motor at the official launch of the all-new Toyota Alphard and Vellfire.

Subang Jaya, 4 August 2016 – The Toyota Alphard and Vellfire are popular MPVs with Malaysian consumers but the ones you see on the road are mainly reconditioned units from grey market importers. UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT), the sole authorised importer and distributor of Toyota vehicles in Malaysia, did bring in the previous generation Alphard but stocks were limited. Today, UMWT launched the two popular premium MPVs – the All-new Toyota Alphard and All-new Toyota Vellfire.

Toyota Alphard & Vellfire MalaysiaThe Alphard is the third generation model while the Vellfire is the second generation and is the first time this model is officially sold here. In Toyota’s line-up, the Vellfire sits below the Alphard, which is a more premium vehicle. Since both the models are brought in by the official distributor, Toyota have tuned them for Malaysian driving conditions and fuel quality, which are very different from their country of origin. They are also equipped with infotainment and navigation systems suited for Malaysia so you don’t have to learn Japanese to use one.

At the launch, Mr. Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor commented, “Driving conditions in Malaysia can be quite demanding. The weather conditions are usually hot and most vehicles especially MPVs often travel long distances at high speed. These situations may affect the operating temperatures of the engine and programming of the ECU (Engine Control Unit) is usually adjusted to keep the engine cool.

“Vehicles intended for other countries are being tuned specially for the country and they may not operate optimally in Malaysian conditions. Therefore, in order for customers to have complete peace of mind and satisfaction when driving their Toyota vehicle, I strongly recommend that they purchase the vehicles from UMWT outlet or any authorized Toyota dealers in Malaysia,” he added.

Datuk Ismet Suki, President of UMW Toyota Motor chipped in, “UMW Toyota Motor has been selling the previous generation Alphard in Malaysia. However, we did not promote it extensively as the available stocks are limited and were often taken up quickly. From this encouraging demand, it became clear that the time is right for us to give more attention to marketing the premium MPVs.”

Customers who buy from UMWT will enjoy a vehicle that is optimally tuned for local climate and driving conditions as well as a full 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage and extensive after-sales service coverage with Toyota-trained technicians. In addition, there is also a 10-year guarantee of the availability of Toyota Genuine Parts after the model is out of production so there is peace-of-mind if you plan to keep the vehicle for a long time.

“For every model we sell, we are committed to provide our customers with all the necessary support to ensure that their ownership experience is enjoyable. Therefore, we invested in the necessary equipment to service and repair the models and our technicians received specific training so that they know the vehicles inside out,” Datuk Ismet explained.

The Toyota Alphard and Vellfire might appear similar but they are differentiated by market segmentation and design theme – the Alphard’s theme is ‘Bravely Magnificent’ while the Vellfire is ‘Bold and Fearless’. The Alphard is a premium executive MPV and is fitted with a 3.5-litre 2GR-FE V6 Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) engine and other advanced technologies for high fuel efficiency and low emissions. Maximum output of 180kW/271PS of power and 340Nm of torque is sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential manual mode.

An ECO mode switch is available to improve fuel economy. There are two variants of the Alphard – the Alphard 3.5 Executive Lounge and Alphard 3.5 and four colours to choose from – White Pearl with Crystal Shine, Silver Metallic, Black and the Alphard-exclusive Luxury White Pearl with Crystal Shine and Glass Flakes. The Alphard 3.5 Executive Lounge is priced at RM519,900 on the road (with insurance) in Peninsular Malaysia while the Alphard 3.5 is at RM419,900.

On the other hand, the Vellfire is powered by a 2.5-litre 2AR-FE 4-cylinder engine with Dual VVT-i that produces 132kW/180PS and 235Nm. This engine is mated to a 7-speed CVT (continuously-variable transmission) that is tuned for efficiency, quietness and MPV loads. Colour-wise the Vellfire gets the Alphard’s three colours and the Vellfire-only Burning Black with Crystal Shine and Glass Flakes. The Vellfire costs RM355,000 for personal ownership in Peninsular Malaysia.

Both the 7-seater Alphard and Vellfire come with Active and Passive safety systems such as 7 SRS airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control. The Electric Parking Brake is also a first for these models.

Kuala Lumpur, 02 August, 2016 – The Porsche 718 Boxster, officially launched today by Sime Darby Auto performance (SDAP), the official importer of Porsche in Malaysia, is set to be a really popular model for aspiring Porsche buyers – and more so when they launch the Cayman version.

For the uninitiated, the Boxster is the convertible version with an electrically retractable roof, while the Cayman is the hard top version. Both the new 718 Boxster and soon-to-come Cayman share the same platform and mechanicals.

What is more attractive is that the new 718 series will have down-sized engines, which makes them practical in terms of road tax in the first place, and another piece of good news is that despite the down-sizing, the new power trains are supplemented with turbo-charging, making them more powerful than their predecessors.

side view, Boxster 718 YSK_8280Two decades after the first Boxster made its debut, Porsche is restructuring its mid-engine roadsters. The new models are named 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S, paying tribute to the 718 race car, the iconic legend that was born in 1953 and took the 1960s by storm by claiming over 1,000 racing victories across the globe from Sebring to Targa Florio to Le Mans.

“The new 718 Boxster models offer a significant leap in power and performance compared to the previous generation. It is a mid-engine sports car that combines the sporting spirit of the legendary 718 race car with that of the sports car of tomorrow,” said Arnt Bayer, Chief Executive Officer of SDAP at the launch.

The Porsche 718, 1953The centrepiece of the new model series is the newly developed four-cylinder flat engine with turbocharging. With a 2.0-litre engine, the 718 Boxster develops 300 horsepower, while the 718 Boxster S employs a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, generating 350 horsepower from 2.5 litres of displacement. In the S-model, Porsche also uses a turbocharger with Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG). In fact, Porsche is now the only manufacturer to offer VTG technology in production cars with petrol-driven engines, both in the 911 Turbo and in the 718 Boxster S. Impressive here is the considerable power gain of 26 kW (35 hp) compared to the previous Boxster models and the greater efficiency of the new turbo engines. The new 718 Boxster models have fuel economy improvements of up to 13 per cent.

Rear 3Qtr view, Boxster 718 YSK_8281The rear of the new models, meanwhile, is a strong expression of the superlative sporty performance that they are capable of. The cleanly-defined lines and two slim taillights that are connected by a solid accent trim are all designed to add width and prowess to the sleek overall silhouette of the new 718 Boxster models. A quintessential Boxster characteristic, the fabric roof, can be opened and closed in just 9 seconds up to a speed of 50 km/h. In addition, the latest generation of Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is included as standard. The navigation module is available as an option.Roof folds neatly into area behind the seats. Note the roll-over protection. YSK_8304Efficient turbo power from four cylinders
The launch of the new 718 Boxster generation represents the first time that Porsche is implementing sports cars with four-cylinder flat engines since the end of the 1960s. Turbocharging significantly boosts torque. The two-litre engine of the 718 Boxster has a maximum torque of 380 Newton metres (that is 100 Newton metres more), which is available from 1,950 rpm to 4,500 rpm. The 2.5-litre engine of the 718 Boxster S even attains 420 Newton metres (60 Newton metres more) over a speed range from 1,900 rpm to 4,500 rpm.

analogue instruments, - note the 8,000 rpm redline - awesome! YSK_8314Thus, the new 718 Boxster models sprint even faster. The 718 Boxster with PDK and the Sport Chrono Package can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds (0.8 seconds faster). The 718 Boxster S with the same equipment completes this discipline in 4.2 seconds (0.6 seconds faster). The top speed of the 718 Boxster is 275 km/h, and the 718 Boxster S has a top speed of 285 km/h.

The Porsche turbo concept is boosting driving performance while improving fuel economy. In the 718 Boxster, the four-cylinder flat engine with PDK has a NEDC fuel consumption figure of 6.9 l/100 km (1.0 l/100 km less). In the 718 Boxster S, the 2.5-litre turbo flat engine with PDK consumes just 7.3 l/100 km (0.9 l/100 km less). In Malaysia, the 718 Boxster models are equipped with seven-speed PDK as standard.

New design emphasizes a sharpened profile
The 718 model line can be recognised at first glance. The front end of the new roadster exhibits a more sculptured form. The front has a wider and more masculine appearance. The much larger cooling air intakes at the front are a distinct exterior expression of the new turbo engine concept. The front end of the 718 Boxster is rounded out by the new design of the bi-xenon headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), and is integrated with the LED day-time running lights. The LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights are available as a new option.

side view, Boxster 718 YSK_8280From the side view, identifying features of the new model line include new, independently styled wings and side sills. Larger air inlet panels with two fins emphasize the car’s dynamic look. The doors are now designed without door handle recess covers. New 19-inch wheels are standard on the 718 Boxster S. 20-inch diameter wheels are available as an option.

YSK_8297The redesigned rear body of the 718 Boxster has a much wider look – especially due to the accent strip with integrated Porsche badge between the tail lights. The entirely redeveloped tail lights are distinguished by their three-dimensional LED technology and four-point brake lights.

Rear rendition is sleek and neat. YSK_8282Sportier tuning of chassis for greater agility
In its driving dynamics, the new roadster follows in the tracks of the original 718. The car’s completely retuned chassis enhances cornering performance. The electromechanical steering system is configured to be ten per cent more direct. This makes the 718 Boxster even more agile and easier to steer, both on circuit tracks and in everyday traffic.

Minus ten and minus 20: Porsche Active Suspension Management
Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with a ten millimetre lower ride height comes in standard for both 718 Boxster models. For the first time, the PASM sport chassis with a 20 millimetres lower ride height is available as an option for the 718 Boxster S. The active chassis, which has also been retuned, offers an even broader spread between long-distance touring comfort and dynamic sporty stiffness.

Extensive Sport Chrono Package for dynamic driving experience
The optional Sport Chrono Package now comprises the Individual programme in addition to the three settings Normal, Sport and Sport Plus. In sports cars with PDK, the Sport Response Button has been added, which is located in the middle of the driving programme switch. Inspired by the racing car, it enables the driver to configure the responsiveness of the engine and the PDK to be very direct.

The interior has new Porsche Communication Management as standard
Awaiting the driver in the cockpit of the 718 Boxster is the familiar Porsche interior environment, now upgraded with new elements such as the instrument panel. Another central element of the new interior layout is the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) unit with mobile phone preparation, audio interfaces and the Sound Package Plus with 110 watts of audio power. The PCM can be extended with optional modules to thoroughly adapt it to personal requirements. For instance, a navigation module with voice control is available, which makes it easy to input driving destinations. In addition, the Connect Plus module is available as an extension of the navigation module; it provides extended online services.

The retail base price for the 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S starts from RM 480,000.00 and RM 620,000.00. All prices stated come with a four-year warranty and free maintenance package. The price stated includes all applicable duties excluding registration fee, road tax and insurance.
