An all-new Volvo XC90 is around the corner, and ahead of its scheduled global premiere later this year, Volvo has kicked off the new model’s pre-launch campaign by releasing a series of official pictures showing the actual cabin of the upcoming new seven-seater.

In the months to come, Volvo will continue to tease us with bits and pieces of information of the new XC90 starting in mid-July and continuing throughout the summer period until the exterior shape is unveiled at the end of August.

When the original XC90 launched in 2002, it had revolutionized the large premium SUV segment, and the new model is set to assume similar levels of significance. It will be the first Volvo model to use the company’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) that will form the basis of Volvo’s next generation of models.

Volvo describes the new XC90’s cabin to be the most luxurious interior ever in the company’s history of models. Selection of materials include ingredients such as soft leather, wood trim dash inserts, crystal glass gear lever, and diamond cut controls for the engine start/stop button and audio volume control.

Dominant feature of the dashboard is the iPad-like touch screen, which Volvo claims to give virtually button-free interaction for drivers to access the vehicle’s in-car control system. The result is an interior that appears pleasingly minimalistic and uncluttered, although we will need to see the model in the flesh before drawing conclusions on its functionality on the move.

A four-zone climate control system regulates the cabin’s environment, with a separate air-con unit dedicated to third row optionally available in selected markets. Volvo also refined its CleanZone air purification system with a new filter for more efficient capture of small, harmful particles and pollen in incoming air.

Building on Volvo’s enviable reputation in providing some of the best seats in the business, the new XC90 seats seven occupants in a 2-3-2 configuration. All seven buckle up with three-point safety belts with pre-tensioners, and all rows get curtain airbag protection in the event of a side impact or rollover. For maximum flexibility, all seven seats are individually foldable, and Volvo claims that the third row has enough space to comfortably accommodate passengers up to 170cm tall.

Two seat designs are offered with the new XC90. The standard Comfort seats feature electric adjustment with memory, adjustable side bolsters, seat cushion extension, multi-directional lumbar support, and vertical adjustment of the headrests. Ventilation and massage functions can be specified as add-ons. Alternatively, buyers can specify their vehicles with optional Contour seats that offer enhanced side support.
