Peugeot 208 And 2008 With Puretech Engines Launched

Nasim Sdn Bhd, the Malaysia distributor of Peugeot vehicles, has introduced the updated Peugeot 208 Puretech hatchback and 2008 Puretech crossover. As evident from the name both vehicles are equipped with the award-winning 1.2-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder Puretech engine which replaces the 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine. This new engine makes 112 PS and 205 Nm from 1,500 rpm and has won the International Engine Of The Year award in 2015 and 2016.

This pairing allows Peugeot to claim a best-in-class fuel efficiency of 4.2 liters / 100 km for the 208 and 2008. There is also stop-start technology for optimal fuel economy; it deactivates the engine when speed is below 20 km/h and restarts when the accelerator is pressed. According to Peugeot, this is supposed to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15% in dense urban traffic. Additionally, for Malaysia, a smaller capacity engine means a lower road tax.

Physically, the 208 gets a new bumper, more muscular lines, a wider grille, thicker chrome finisher with separate fog lamps, new headlamps, 3D LED rear lamps, LED light signature and 16″ alloy wheels.

Meanwhile, the 2008 has a new vertical front grille, new headlamps with daytime running lights, front fog lamps with cornering assist, 3D rear ‘claw’ lamps and 17″ dual tone Hydre Antra wheels.

Inside, the Peugeot i-Cockpit design with the compact leather steering wheel, 7″ HD multi-function touchscreen and head-up instrument display (NOT head-up display) have won the 29th Annual Festival Automobile International’s Most Beautiful Interior award. The interior also includes a 6-speaker Arkamys 3D Audio system, USB and Bluetooth connectivity and digital dual zone climate control via touchscreen. The 2008 Puretech gets a panoramic glass roof with blue LED mood lighting.

As for safety features, both the 208 and 2008 have 5-star Euro NCAP rating and come equipped with 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Anti-Skid Regulation (ASR), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and ISOFIX. It also uses a Very High Strength Steel body.

Peugeot cars launched from 2017 onward come with a 5-year / 120,000 km warranty, Nasim’s 3-year complimentary 24-hour Peugeot Roadside Assistance service, exclusive access to the Peugeot Lounge at Subang Airport and Peugeot Privilege membership. For the first 100 buyers of the 208 and 2008, Nasim is offering them a 3-year / 60,000km free service program.
