Volvo Trucks launches new fleet management system in Malaysia

by -

Volvo Trucks has introduced its web-based Dynafleet telematics system catering in Malaysia, providing transport and logistics companies a new fleet management solution that can streamline the planning and execution of transport assignments and at the same time monitor the location and behaviour of each individual truck through satellite positioning.

Whilst usage of Dynafleet is subscription-based, the necessary hardware for its implementation is now pre-installed in all new Volvo trucks. Retrofitting is possible with any truck, even from other brands, that meets the European Fleet Management Systems (FMS) interface standard. For Volvo trucks, this covers all of the company’s vehicles manufactured no earlier than 2002.

Dynafleet was originally launched in 1994, making Volvo the first European truck manufacturer to offer its own fleet management system. Globally, it is available in 19 languages and in all markets in Europe as well as Brazil, Australia, Morocco, South Africa, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and now Asia.

“Today, we are proud to unveil that since its inception; more than 90,000 trucks worldwide have installed the Volvo Dynafleet system. As you can imagine, this proven technology is our success story and we are excited to bring Dynafleet to Asia. Over the years, we have enhanced and fine-tuned the systems; and Malaysia will be one of the first few Asian markets to experience this technology,” says Managing Director of Volvo Malaysia, Mats Nilsson.

For Malaysia, Volvo offers the Dynafleet service in three modules, namely ‘Fuel & Environment’, ‘Positioning’ and ‘Messaging’. Customers can choose between these modules individually or in any combination they prefer. As the names of these modules suggest, ‘Fuel & Environment’ help customers monitor driving behaviour, ‘Positioning’ provides location identification and route history, while ‘Messaging’ allows exchange of text messages between driver and his company’s office. Messaging is delivered via a telco data plan that is bundled into the service’s subscription fee.

In addition, the Dynafleet app which is available on Apple iTunes and Google Play, allows owners and fleet managers to conveniently follow each of their truck remotely, from any location via smartphone or tablet. The app features a fuel efficiency score that is built from four driver performance indicators: anticipation and braking, engine and gear utilisation, speed adaptation and standstill. They can also access a range of parameters in real time, including exact location, fuel consumption, driver times, carbon emissions, and the locations of Volvo Trucks’ dealerships. The app is downloadable free of charge, although paid subscription is ultimately needed to activate it.

Volvo is offering two promotional packages for customers interested in subscribing for Dynafleet. Effective 14th May 2015, customers are entitled for three years of free Dynafleet subscription with new orders of Volvo FM/FMX when signing up for the Gold Service Agreement. For other truck models, Volvo is offering a hardware retro-fit with three months free subscription of Dynafleet.
