Subaru XV Crosstrek Edition debuts in KLIMS13

Motor Image Malaysia has marked its first ever appearance at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2013 by launching the Subaru XV Crosstrek Edition available in limited numbers at a special price of RM138,800 for the duration of the motor show.

Offered with a bright new Tangerine Orange Pearl colour option, the XV Crosstrek incorporates various cosmetic enhancements such as a mesh front grille, roof spoiler, daytime running lights, customized leather trim, and more. Based on mechanical underpinnings of the Impreza, the XV is powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre flat-four mated to a CVT and Subaru’s signature all-wheel drive system.

Situated at Hall 1, Subaru’s booth in KLIMS13 showcases the brand’s current line-up of vehicles sold in Malaysia namely the regular XV, BRZ, Forester 2.0XT, WRX STI, and Legacy Sedan. The booth’s star attraction is the transparent-looking BRZ Boxer Architecture concept which showcases the mechanical underpinnings of the BRZ, Subaru’s first-ever rear-wheel drive sports car co-developed with Toyota.

According to Mr Glenn Tan, Executive Director of Tan Chong International Ltd, Subaru’s maiden presence at KLIMS is a signal of intent that the brand is here to stay in Malaysia with long-term commitments firmly in place, underlined by a growing CKD operation and the planned opening of a new flagship showroom that will set the benchmark for sales and service for Subaru dealers throughout the country.

As we have noted in earlier stories, Subaru’s CKD operation in Malaysia, undertaken in partnership with Tan Chong Motor Assemblies in Segambut, is unique in being export rather than domestic market driven. Out of 5,000 units of the XV already produced, only a third were retained in Malaysia with the rest being exported to Indonesia and Thailand. It is also worth noting that the Segambut plant is only Subaru’s second assembly plant outside Japan after Indiana, USA.
