Mazda marks 90th Anniversary with special edition Axela Sport 1.5 S Style
Mazda today launched a special edition Axela Sport (Mazda3 Hatchback) for the Japanese Domestic Market to mark the company’s 90th anniversary celebrations this year. Based on the 1.5-litre variant, which is not sold in Malaysia, the Axela Sport 1.5 S Style goes on sale in Mazda outlets throughout Japan immediately.
Differentiating the 1.5 S Style from the run-of-the-mill 1.5-litre variants are a choice of 15- or 16-inch alloy wheels to go with side spoilers, LED rear combination lights and dark tinted glass.

Opting for the 16-inch wheels also gets the customer discharge headlights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a 4.1-inch multi-information display, which shows readouts for the audio, climate control, trip computer and other systems.
As you would expect, the underlying mechanicals are unchanged from the standard variants. Power comes from the JDM-only 1,498 cc inline-4 engine mated to a CVT sending its 109hp and 140Nm to the front wheels. In the books of the Japanese government, this engine is certified ‘green’ and qualifies for a 50% tax reduction under the country’s ‘eco-car’ tax reduction programme.
In Malaysia, the Axela sedan is sold as the Mazda3 Sport, with the option of a 1.6-litre or 2.0-litre powerplant, both mated to torque converter automatic transmissions.
