Toyota Innova facelift launched

Following the introduction of the facelifted Hilux and Fortuner, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd has completed the refreshing of its IMV range with the newly updated Innova MPV launched last week. Priced between RM97,500 and RM110,600 with insurance, the Innova is available in three variants as before.

Inline with the other two facelifted IMV models, the Innova is similarly given a revised front end, with a new Camry-like grille grafted to its nose. Along its side, the wheel arches are flared wider, whilst the rear combination lamps now incorporate a 3D design with a protruding middle section.

Inside, Toyota has maintained the original model’s basic architecture, but with choice of materials and equipment suitably updated to suit recent trends. The base 2.0E models have redesigned control dials for improved ease of operation. The instrument panel has also been revised with black background for improved visibility, and the 2.0E A/T now gets the previously missing Shift Position Indicator.

Exclusive to the higher-specced 2.0G are Optitron meters with mutli-info display (MID) providing seven different types of information at the touch of a button – average fuel consumption, real-time fuel consumption, average speed on a journey, engine running time, range, compass, and external temperature. The 2.0G also gets steering mounted controls to operate the MID and audio system.

Like any good MPV, the Innova’s three row of seats can be adjusted to multiple configurations to suit various people and cargo-carrying needs. Storage spaces are thoughtfully placed at various points of the cabin, and they include plenty of cupholders and two gloveboxes. Different compartments and slots are available for the storage of loose items such as newspapers, CDs, coins, keys, and portable devices. Shopping bag hooks are placed at the rear of the third row seats, and a 12V power outlet is offered on the dashboard of the 2.0G.

In our climate, many MPVs in the lower price range fail in providing adequate cooling for rear-seated passengers. Toyota’s solution for the Innova is a dual air-conditioner system with controls at the front and over the second row. The 2.0G additionally gets an automatic control system.

Powering the Innova is the tried and tested 1TR-FE 2.0-litre four-pot with VVT-i technology. Paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, the engine sends 134hp @ 5,600rpm and 182Nm @ 4,000rpm to the rear. Using a body-on-frame architecture like its IMV cousins, the Innova utilizes double-wishbones up front with a non-independent four-link layout at the rear.

The Innova’s bodyshell is certified by Toyota’s in-house Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) safety standards. Additional safety features include a laminated non-shattering windscreen, collapsible steering column and side-impact beams. The 2.0E gets a driver’s airbag, while the 2.0G adds a passenger airbag and ABS.

UMW Toyota Motor offers the Innova with a 3-year / 100,000km warranty. The three variants of the Innova, for private registration and metallic colour in Peninsula Malaysia, are priced as such:
– 2.0E M/T : RM 97,500
– 2.0E A/T : RM102,500
– 2.0G A/T : RM110,600

In addition to its standard equipment, customers can also opt their Innova with the Toyota Standard Solar Film (RM1,400) and the touchscreen DVD-AVN system (RM2,990), which is a 2-DIN unit with 6.1″ colour screen. Features integrated to the DVD-AVN system include GPS, DVD player, Bluetooth, USB, AUX, and reverse camera.
