JPM to host Malaysian leg of Super GT 2011

For the past ten years, Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit has been enjoying the privilege of being the only circuit outside of Japan to host a round of Super GT Series season. That tradition is set to continue this year, but with new hands at the helm following GTA Company Limited’s appointment of JP Performance Motorsport Sdn Bhd (JPM) as the event’s organizer.

An agreement was signed between the two companies at Hotel Equatorial on Saturday, 19 February 2011, which will see JPM given the rights to organize this year’s leg on 18-19 June in Sepang, and again for the 2011 and 2012 seasons as well.

Fans of the Super GT Series can look forward to the participation of Honda, Toyota, Lexus and Nissan in the GT500 class, and also to privateers participating in the GT300 class using an assortment of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Moslers, Corvettes, and Subarus.

Activities promised include a number of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, including cultural exchange programmes, blood donation drives, and road safety campaigns. As usual, various booths and stalls selling drinks, foodstuff and souvenirs will be put up to create a carnival-like atmosphere.

Ticket prices have not been announced, but it has been promised not to exceed last year’s amount. According to Mr Chin Jit Pyng, Founder of JPM, the company targets an attendance of 50,000 spectators for this year’s edition.
