Peugeot 407 Launched

Peugeot 407 Launched

by -

With the tagline “Let’s talk about cars again,” Cycle & Carriage Automobiles Sdn Bhd launched the new Peugeot 407 this week in a simple ceremony at the Peugeot Blue Box sales and service centre in Petaling Jaya. It must have been a very quiet weekend for many the day before, because the response was overwhelming. Members of the press, Peugeot’s customers, and the general public had to squeeze into a tent erected within the workshop (don’t ask me why a tent was built in a workshop), to witness the tri-party launch of the new car by the Ambassador of France to Malaysia, H.E. Jacques LaPouge, Mr. Dominique Monet, Regional Director for Asean Countries from Automobiles Peugeot Paris, and Yg Bhg Tan Sri Abdul Halim bin Ali, Chairman of Cycle & Carriage Bintang Berhad .

Fitted with a 2.0 litre in-line 16 valve, 4-cylinder engine, the Peugeot 407 has an output of 137 bhp at 6,000 rpm, and maximum torque of 190 Nm at 4100 rpm. According to the very simple specification sheet that was given to us, it has a Porsche Tiptronic transmission, ventilated disc brakes at the front, and solid discs at the rear. In the performance department, the Peugeot 407 is claimed to have a top speed of 206 kilometres per hour, and 205/60 R16 tyres fitted on 16-inch alloy wheels.

Features include driver, passenger, curtain and side airbags, ABS with new generation Electronic Stability Programming (ESP), emergency Braking Assistance, and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD).

The car certainly looks very sporty, with a very wide and aggressive looking front grille, and the overall lines belong more to a 250 horsepower super saloon.

Lighting wasn’t so good as it was a night launch. Not to worry, as soon as they give AW a test car, we shall give you the low-down on this lovely baby.
