The early morning rain that poured down in bucket on Saturday, 9th of October 2004 did not dampen the spirits of more than 200 Honda City customers and their families at the flag-off of the Honda City Getaway 2004, a treasure hunt that began at the Equatorial Hotel in Penang and ended at the new Honda dealership premises, Sendi Auto in Sitiawan, before proceeding to Damai Laut Resort, off the coast of Perak, eight hours later.

The colourful event was flagged off by Mr. Seiji Kuraishi, Managing Director and CEO of Honda Malaysia, and Tuan Syed Hisham, COO. Among the highlights of the event was an award for the best-dressed Honda City, and some of the participants turned up with all types of decorations on their cars.

As part of the hunt, participants had to use their sense of smell, touch, sight, taste and hearing to solve clues. In fact, in one of the treasure clues, even the sixth sense, (extra sensory perception, ESP for short) was touched upon.

The majority of participants went through the complete course to try to answer the questions, but some who just came along for the holiday made a beeline for the Damai Laut resort by highway, and checked in early to maximize their time at the resort.

At the end of the hunt, participants had a short rest before proceeding to a buffet BBQ dinner. At dinner, various party games were played, and everybody had a good time. Honda Malaysia also organized a ‘lucky draw’ for all the participants, and those who did not do so well in the hunt still had a chance to win some fabulous prizes. The top prize of a 42-inch plasma TV worth an estimated RM18, 000 was won by a lucky couple from Penang who were participating in a treasure hunt for the first time in their lives.

The overall winners of the Honda City Getaway were the duo of KK Chai and VK Chong who made only one mistake in the question section. They did not fare well in the five senses section, but their score was enough to give them a sizeable lead over the second place winners. The winners received a cash prize of RM1000.00
