Mercedes-Benz CLS Grand Edition
Unfazed by the current economic climate, Mercedes has launched a new Grand Edition of its 4-door CLS coupe. This new special edition model is finished with what Merc calls ‘designo magno platinum’ matt paint on the outside, and high-grade designo leather on the inside.
Merc claims that the matt paint finish, besides being eye-catching, is also highly resistant to dirt and scratches, and can be specified in four different colours: obsidian black, iridium silver, carneol red or flint grey. Emphasizing its ‘special edition’ status are a quartet of AMG 18″ 5-spoke light-weight alloy wheels. If the paint and the wheels don’t get the message across, the pair ‘Grand Edition’ badges along the flanks ought to tell your buddies the extra cash you forked out for this one.
More goodies are abound inside to differentiate this from the run-of-the-mill CLS. You get higher-grade leather upholstery, wood trim which can be specified in matt or high-gloss finish, and even sports pedals with brushed metal finish. Even the floor mats are exclusive.
Dash features high level wood trim.
Pedals finished with brushed metal for sporty feel.
There are four engine options for the CLS Grand Edition, though only 2 were specifically mentioned in the press release. The entry level model is the CLS 280 powered by the same 3.0 V6 engine found in the E280, followed by a 3.5 V6 petrol direct injection engine powering the CLS 350 CGI. The CGI’s powerplant is rated at 292hp, and Merc claims a consumption figure of 9.1l / 100km.
Prices start at 67k Euros for the CLS 280 Grand Edition, though I am not sure if Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will deem it wise to bring a few units here for our market.
