Flagship MAN TGX Prime Mover Debuts In Malaysia
MAN Truck & Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MAN Malaysia) unveiled the MAN TGX flagship prime mover today at the Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo (MCVE) 2022. The TGX has won numerous awards such as International Truck of the Year 2021, and iF Design Award 2021. The high roof TGX is MAN Malaysia’s biggest truck model available in its Euro 5-compliant New Truck Generation product range. The TGX cab measures 2,440 mm in width, 2,280 mm in length and 2,150 mm in height.
It is designed for long-haul and cross-border trips and as such is built to maximise driving comfort and ergonomics. The spacious cabin has a standing height of 2,100 mm to ease the movement of the driver and co-driver. There is also a comfortable bed for breaks.
As this truck is meant for long trips, there is also ample storage within the cabin; about 520 litres’ worth. Driving ergonomics and safety is also enhanced with the MAN SmartSelect control knob which allows easy access to the truck’s features and functions. Safety features include Electronic Brake System (EBS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), MAN PriTarder braking system with MAN EVBec (Electronically Controlled Exhaust Valve Brake), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Anti-slip Control (ASR), Distance-controlled tempomat (ACC / adaptive cruise control), Advanced Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), and Lane Guard System (LGS).
Powering the MAN TGX is the proven MAN D2676 LF08 12.4L inline-6 diesel engine with 540 hp and 2,500 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 12-speed MAN TipMatic gearbox that promises excellent moving-off and gearshift strategy to optimise fuel consumption. It also offers high levels of driving and operating comfort. Like the MAN TGS range launched in November 2021, the engine in the TGX is also complies with the Euro 5 standards and as such has much lower carbon emissions to comply with the stricter Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria. MAN is the first truck brand in Malaysia to offer Euro 5 engines as standard across its product portfolio. This move is its contribution to help Malaysia achieve a carbon neutral status by 2050.
“We are effectively challenging the Malaysian transporters to join the journey and take the lead in reducing carbon emissions. In Europe, long distance transport vehicles produce as much as 27% of CO2 gases. Malaysia must look and act now to reduce its carbon footprint. The commercial industry as well as public service vehicles can do their part in this environmental challenge,” said Andrew O’Brooks, Managing Director of MAN Malaysia.
“As a manufacturer, MAN is doing its part to offer the right solution. Our New MAN Truck Generation with Euro 5 engines as standard is an all-new product range that leads the way in driver orientation, fuel efficiency, assistance systems, digital networking and above all, sustainability. The industry certainly needs to reinvest in new, future-proof trucks that meet these criteria especially in the current business environment that demands strict environmental, social and governance compliance. The strong uptake since its launch some 4 months ago shows that many Malaysian transporters are forward thinking and share our belief that we must do more for the environment now rather than later,” he added.
In conjunction with the TGX launch, MAN Malaysia also officially signed sale and purchase agreements with Sea Hawk Global Lines Sdn Bhd, Biforst Logistics Sdn Bhd, and Azmi Gas Sdn Bhd for Euro 5-compliant trucks.
MAN trucks are on display at the MCVE at Malaysia International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC) in Seri Kembangan from 10 – 12 March 2022.
