Honda Malaysia Initiates Product Update For Civic, Civic Type R, & CR-V

Following a similar move in North America, Honda Malaysia has announced a product update initiative involving approximately 36,000 units of the Honda Civic, Civic Type R, and CR-V models. The move is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to safety and quality, focusing on the Electric Power Steering (EPS) gearbox.

The product update affects the following models:

  • Civic (Year Model 2022 – 2024)
  • Civic Type R (Year Model 2023 – 2024)
  • CR-V (Year Model 2024)

The EPS (electric power steering) gearbox, specifically the worm wheel, is at the centre of this update. It has been identified that the worm wheel may experience swelling, which can lead to a reduction in the grease film thickness. In this situation, it would result in additional friction and could potentially cause abnormal steering noises or create a sticky steering feel, impacting the driving experience.Honda_CR-V_2024_Steering

Honda Malaysia has reassured customers that no other current production or sales models are affected by this product update. The company acknowledges the potential inconvenience for affected vehicle owners and expresses regret, highlighting that this initiative underlines Honda’s commitment to customer safety.

All affected owners will receive notification letters detailing the product update and next steps. Honda Malaysia encourages all owners to promptly contact any authorised Honda dealer to schedule an inspection or necessary repairs as soon as they receive their notification. The inspection, repair, or replacement of any affected EPS gearbox parts will be fully covered by Honda Malaysia, at no cost to customers.

The company has also indicated that replacement stock will be available in stages, starting from December 2024. You can confirm if your vehicle is included in this update by reaching out to Honda Malaysia’s toll-free hotline at 1-800-88-2020, visiting the website at productrecall.honda.com.my, or contacting any authorised Honda dealership.
