MG4 And MG ZS EV Launched In Malaysia; Prices From RM104k

SAIC Motor Malaysia Sdn Bhd has launched its new range of electric vehicles that promise to offer value, innovation and driving joy. The company has introduced 2 models from its MG (Morris Garages) line-up i.e. MG4 and MG ZS EV.

We start off with the MG ZS EV which comes in just a single variant i.e. Lux. Priced at RM125,999, this 5-seater SUV sits on a 2,581 mm wheelbase with a body measuring 4,323 mm long, 1,809 mm wide and 1,625 mm tall, making a B-segment offering.

The ZS EV has a single motor producing 130 kW (174 hp) and 280 Nm of torque for the front wheels. The lithium ion battery capacity is 51.1 kWh (49 kWh usable capacity) and gives it a driving range of up to 320 km (WLTP). Through 7 kW AC charging, the battery will take 10 hours to get from 10% to 100%, while with 50 kW charging, it takes 54 minutes to go from 10% to 80%. Meanwhile, 0 – 100 km/h is done in 8 seconds with speed peaking at 170 km/h. There is also a regenerative braking system with 3 levels.

Notable features include a a wireless charging pad, 10.1″ floating touchscreen infotainment with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 4 speakers, 2 USB ports, leather upholstery, 6-way powered seats, climate control, rear air vents, dual pane sunroof and digital driver information display.

In terms of safety, besides the 6 airbags and ESP, hill start assist, etc, it also comes with the MG Pilot ADAS suite which includes Active Emergency Warning and Braking (with pedestrian and bicycle detection), Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Jam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Intelligent High Beam Assist.

The MG ZS EV comes in 4 exterior colours i.e. Dynamic Red, Black Pearl, Monument Silver and Arctic White.

As for the MG4, there are 4 variants for sale i.e. MG4 Standard (RM103,999), MG4 Lux (RM123,999), MG4 Lux Extended Range (RM148,999) and MG4 XPower (RM158,999). 

Dimensions of the MG4 C-segment hatchback are 4,287 mm (length) and 1,836 mm (width), on a 2,705 mm wheelbase. Also the same across the variants is boot space i.e. 363 litres (1,177 litres with rear seats folded). The physical difference is in vehicle height; MG4 Standard and Lux have a height of 1,504 mm while the Extended Range and XPower are 1,516 mm. Differences also extend to the power output as well as battery size (specs listed below by variant):

The MG4 exterior colour choices are: Holborn Blue, Arctic White, Dynamic Red, Camden Grey, Black Pearl, Monument Silver, Volcano Orange (Lux and Extended Range get Black roof), and Racing Green (XPower exclusive).

The MG ZS EV and MG4 are covered by a 7-year (or 150,000 km whichever comes first) vehicle warranty and an 8-year (or 180,000 km whichever comes first) battery warranty.

MG is also offering customers who book a car before 30 April 2024 the following packages:

• Complimentary 7 kW wallbox charger with installation (worth RM4,600) for MG ZS EV and MG4 Standard
• Complimentary 11 kW wallbox charger with installation (worth RM5,200) for MG4 Lux
• 1,000 charging credits with DC Handal and JomCharge for MG4 Lux Extended Range and XPower.

Furthermore, SAIC Motor Malaysia has partnered with Berjaya Sompo Insurance, Allianz Malaysia and Generali Malaysia to offer MG owners additional protection via the MG Insurance Programme (MIP). This includes:

• Unlimited towing cost coverage – EV will be towed to nearest charging point should it run out of battery
• Home wallbox charger coverage of up to RM10,000 in event of theft or damage by external factors.

Additionally, Allianz Malaysia, under the Allianz EV Shield programme, will compensate up to RM5,000 on top of the usual vehicle insurance coverage in the event of a fire caused by wallbox charger, charging cable or public charging station.
