TC Sunergy Sdn Bhd (TCS), a subsidiary of Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad (TCMH or the Group), has set up its first Floating Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic (LSSPV) plant in Serendah, Selangor and has been harnessing renewable solar energy since 5 January. This is the Tan Chong Group’s first foray into the renewable energy sector.

The TCS Floating LSSPV – Serendah comes from the Group’s participation in the 20-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) project under the LSSPV Bidding Cycle 4 (LSS@MEnTARI) by the Energy Commission in 2020. The floating solar plant, built on Sungai Rawang – Serendah Lake, is expected to supply 1,043,114 MWh of green energy to Tenaga National Berhad under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

According to TCS, this solar power facility will contribute to a reduction of 610,221 tonnes of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, which is equivalent to removing 132,656 cars from the road, or to the planting of 29,058,175 trees. default

To preserve the lake’s ecosystem, water quality, as well as the biodiversity of its surrounding environment, the floating solar plant only utilises about 60% of the lake’s surface. The project complies with the guidelines of the Environmental Management Plans provided by Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and the Department of Environment (DOE).

TCS is a consortium formed by Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn Bhd (TCMA), APM Shock Absorbers Sdn Bhd, and TCIM Sdn Bhd. TCS will undertake Operations & Maintenance of the solar plant to ensure the licensed capacity, safety, reliability, availability and efficiency of the generating plant are maintained throughout the PPA period in accordance with prudent utility practices and in conformity with the conditions of the Energy Commission’s Public Generation License.

“TCS Floating LSSPV – Serendah is an important milestone signifying the Group’s first venture into the renewable and sustainable energy sector. TCMH Group is pleased to be able to play our part in conserving the environment for our future generations,” said Daniel Ho, Group Chief Executive Officer of TCMH.
