MAN Truck & Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MAN Malaysia), has just delivered the first MAN double-decker coach equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to Super Nice Express Sdn Bhd. This first unit is one of 10 new MAN coaches (5 single deck and 5 double deck units) ordered by Super Nice to prepare for a growth in demand for interstate travel. All the new coaches will be fitted with ADAS as an extra safety feature.
The MAN double-decker coach is built on the proven RR5 3-axle coach chassis and boasts 7 essential driver assistance systems aimed at ensuring optimal safety for both drivers and passengers. These systems are Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Tyre Pressure and Temperature Monitoring System (TPM), Automatic Driving Light Activation (ADLA), and Automatic Wiper Control (AWC).
The EBA intervenes in an emergency situation by automatically reducing torque, activating brake lights, and initiating full braking to prevent or mitigate a collision. ACC enhances safety by maintaining a safe distance in heavy traffic and low visibility conditions, adjusting driving speed and distance based on the traffic flow ahead. Meanwhile, LDW helps alleviate driver strain on long journeys by sending a warning to the driver of lane deviations when the turn signal isn’t used.
Further, ESP reduces rollover risks in emergency manoeuvres by selectively applying brakes to specific wheels to ensure vehicle control and stability. While TPM continuously monitors tyre air pressure and temperature, thus minimising downtime and fuel consumption. ADLA uses sensors to adjust the headlamps based on ambient brightness for optimal road illumination, while AWC activates wipers in response to rain, enhancing visibility.
Super Nice’s double-decker coach also features an updated TX9 body designed by Penang-based TACT Coach Seat & Manufacturing Sdn Bhd. Passengers who book the private room will get to enjoy unique zero gravity seats which promise optimal blood circulation and thus fewer body aches on a long trip, along with personal entertainment systems, USB charging ports, and a cold / hot water dispenser.
“Super Nice is demonstrating great foresight in protecting not only its drivers and customers by opting to equip its MAN coaches with ADAS. In doing so, it is also protecting its business as these advanced and intelligent driving systems can prevent accidents that can lead to costly repairs and unscheduled vehicle downtime,” said Andrew O’Brooks, MAN Malaysia Managing Director, who commended Super Nice for prioritising road safety by choosing to include a comprehensive ADAS suite.
O’Brooks also emphasized MAN’s commitment to sustainability by announcing that all MAN Coach and Bus chassis will be equipped with low-emission and fuel-efficient Euro 5 engines as standard, supporting Malaysian bus companies on their journey towards environmental responsibility.
