WTC Automotif To Launch GAC Emkoo Later In 2024

Along with the reveal of the GAC GS3 Emzoom and the GAC Aion Y Plus, the brand’s exclusive distributor WTC Automotif also unveiled the GAC Emkoo which is expected to see an official launch later this year. In August 2023, an Emkoo made a stopover in KL as part of its “Ten Thousand Miles Across Southeast Asia” expedition.

The GAC Emzoom is a larger vehicle than the GS3 Emkoo. This 5-seater SUV measures 4,680 mm (length), 1,901 mm (width) and 1,670 mm (height), with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. The Emkoo is built on GAC’s Global Platform Modular Architecture (GPMA).

Immediately noticeable is its visually striking exterior featuring a borderless V-shaped grille, “Eyes of Revelation” boomerang-shaped LED headlamps and angular tail lights. Like the GS3 Emzoom, the Emkoo also uses sharp, chiselled lines to denote sportiness.

Inside, the GAC Emkoo has floating fully digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen, crystal gear selector, and unique pull-up inner door handles. In China, the Emkoo’s intelligent driving ecosystem runs on its ADiGO 5.0 system powered by the Qualcomm 8155 processor. There is also an option for a Yamaha audio system.

“GAC EMKOO is another exhilarating addition to our lineup, symbolizing the next phase of our commitment to delivering diverse and high-quality vehicles that cater to the evolving needs of Malaysian consumers. Stay tuned as we approach the launch date for more details about this avant-garde vehicle, promising an extraordinary driving experience that goes beyond conventional boundaries,” commented Tan Keng Meng, CEO of Warisan TC Holdings Bhd, the parent company of WTCA.

Although there are no details nor confirmation on the powertrain, the Emkoo in China is available in 3 engine options i.e. a 1.5L 4A15J2 turbocharged petrol engine offering 177 hp and 270 Nm, paired with a 7-speed DCT; a 2.0L 4B20J1 turbo direct injection petrol engine with 252 hp and 400 Nm, with an 8-speed gearbox; and a GMC 2.0 hybrid system developed by GAC and Toyota. This powertrain features a 2.0L naturally aspirated AB20L1 engine providing 140 hp and 180 Nm, paired with a 2DHT transmission and an electric motor. Combined output is rated at 238 hp, with a 2.1 kWh battery pack supplying power to the motor.

The Emkoo will likely be locally assembled in Segambut like the Emzoom. The final specs and pricing for Malaysia will be available at launch. GAC Emkoo_Interior_Seats_Dashboard
