GAC Aion Y Plus EV Expected To Launch In Malaysia In First Half 2024

Besides the GAC GS3 Emzoom, WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd also gave a preview of the GAC Aion Y Plus EV which is expected to be launched in the first half of 2024. This is a relatively quick move considering WTCA and GAC Aion had just finalised the exclusive distribution agreement in January.

This Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) SUV showcases GAC’s proprietary Magazine lithium iron phosphate battery. The Magazine battery technology is said to be a world’s first and boasts an impeccable safety record with no incidents of ignition nor explosion upon rupture, as demonstrated in a bullet penetration test. The Magazine battery in the Aion Y Plus has a capacity of 63.2 kWh and a maximum output of 150 kW (201 hp) to give it a driving range of up to 430 km on the WLTP cycle.

GAC Aion is the GAC Group’s new energy vehicles subsidiary. It had spent about RM2 billion and 30 months  to develop the GAC Aion Electric Platform (AEP 2.0) tailored exclusively for EVs.

The Aion Y Plus is an extended platform with a lengthy wheelbase of 2,750 mm. As a result, legroom in the rear is extremely generous at up to 1,022 mm, complemented by a flat floor. One of its selling points is the fully reclining front seats which transform into 1.8-metre double bed. Physically, the Aion Y Plus body measures 4,535 mm long, 1,870 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall.

Other unique features include a striking Angel’s Wing headlight design with 7 horizontal light bars. We can also expect a wide selection of 7 trendy body colours. More details will be available closer to launch date.

“GAC Aion represents the future of electric mobility, and WTCA is honoured to be entrusted as the sole and exclusive distributor in Malaysia. This collaboration underscores our dedication to providing the Malaysian market with innovative and eco-friendly mobility solutions,” commented Tan Keng Meng, CEO of Warisan TC Holdings. Tan also highlighted that the GAC Aion Y Plus represents a pivotal step in WTCA’s dedication to offering a solution according to the Economic, Environmental, Social, and Governance (EESG) principles.
