Chery Omoda E5 EV Has Landed In Malaysia

Chery Malaysia has informed that its OMODA sub-brand’s first electric vehicle (EV) – the OMODA E5, has landed in Malaysia. The first units have arrived in Port Klang ahead of preview sessions for the media as well as (likely) for stakeholders in the sustainable mobility segment. Although Chery initially entered Malaysia with ICE (internal combustion engine) models (Tiggo 8 Pro & Omoda 5), it is also placing importance on the new energy vehicles sector in Southeast Asia as the region continues with the adoption of EV.

According to MARii (Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute), electric vehicles in Malaysia are set to see significant growth in terms of market share. It is projected that EVs will make up 15% of total industry volume (TIV) by 2030. Chery_Omoda_E5_EV

Planned for an official launch in the first half of 2024, the Chery Omoda E5 will be Chery’s first contribution to this statistic for sustainable / green transportation. With its core principles of green and safe driving using advanced new energy technology, the Omoda E5 will act as a showcase of Chery’s technological innovations.

Its 3-electric technology, characterised by low energy consumption and high endurance, significantly reduces vehicle energy consumption. With an ultra-low energy consumption of only 15 kWh/100 km and an impressive range of 450 km, drivers can travel smoothly without frequent charging. Additionally, the Omoda E5’s DC fast charging technology can charge the 61 kWh battery from 20% to 80% state-of-charge (SoC) in just 30 minutes, offering a more convenient and seamless travel experience. It also has a 3.3 kVA Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature, a ‘pet safe mode’, as well as privacy glass. Chery_New Energy_Platform

According to official stats, the Omoda E5 runs on a 165 kW (224 hp) electric motor and is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. Furthermore, the Omoda E5 is also equipped with the latest generation of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that includes 16 functions such as blind-spot monitoring, reverse warning, and automatic emergency braking capable of recognising pedestrians and cyclists thus greatly enhancing the active and passive safety.

There are 7 vibrant exterior colour options and 3 colour-matching interior designs to cater to more personalisation though it is unsure if these will all be made available for Malaysia.
