Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 7-Seater SUV Launched In Malaysia; 7-Year Warranty; RM160k
Chery launched a pair of SUV models to mark its official re-entry to Malaysia, with the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro complementing the Omoda 5. This official launch was months in the making as Chery made preparations to establish a dealership network as well as local assembly. Like the Omoda 5, the Tiggo 8 Pro will be sold as a CKD model, bucking a trend of introducing new models first as fully imported units before commencement of local assembly. 
The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is a 7-seater SUV available in a sole Premium trim and priced at RM159,800. At the moment, body colour choices are limited to just Khaki White and Dark Black. The final product is also slightly different from the one Chery Malaysia previewed last year, which was the Tiggo 8 Pro Max, due to updates made to the exterior and interior.
Notable revisions from last year include a new grille design, 3rd brake light design and central tail light LED strip, as well as a redesigned dashboard and displays.
The Tiggo 8 Pro is built on a 2,710 mm wheelbase and the body measures 4,722 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,705 mm tall. Rear cargo volume is about 193 litres with all the seats up and expands to 892 litres with the 3rd row seats folded. Exterior features include automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights, and LED tail lights, welcome light, hands-free powered tailgate with remote unlocking, keyless entry with remote engine start and cooling activation, as well as roof rails.
The redesigned dashboard carries a 24.6″ widescreen display split that would not look out of place in a premium brand. There is also a higher centre tunnel which positions the gear selector and drive mode rotary knob and other controls closer to the driver. The previous largely piano black trim is also replaced by more premium looking open-pore wood. The premium trim is complemented by cabin mood lighting and a powered panoramic sunroof. The powered front seats have ventilation and heating, with the driver’s seat getting a memory function. A dual zone climate control keeps the cabin cool and the 3rd row’s air-conditioning is independent and can be switched off when not needed.
Other features include a wireless phone charging pad (50 W) with reminder function, 8-speaker Siny premium audio system, intelligent voice assistant and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Digital convenience includes 2 USB ports in front and 2 in the 2nd row (Type B and Type C).
The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is fitted with a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine that produces 256 hp and 390 Nm of torque which is sent via a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) to the front wheels (235/55 R19 tyres used). There are 3 selectable Drive modes i.e. Eco, Normal and Sport, with the electric power steering also providing mode adjustment. The front wheels are connected to MacPherson struts while the rears are to a longitudinal towing-arm type. 
Driving safety includes Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assistant System, Brake Override System, Electronic Stability Programme with Traction Control, Hill-start Assist Control, Hill Descent Control, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.
As for the Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS), the Tiggo 8 Pro has Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping System, Blind Spot Detection, Door Open Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Integrated Cruise Assist, Front Collision Warning with Vehicle Identification, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Intelligent High-beam Control, Traffic Sign Recognition and Traffic Jam Assist, and a 540-degree high definition panoramic camera system.
And similar to the Omoda 5, the Tiggo 8 Pro is covered by a 7-year / 150,000 km (whichever comes first), and 5 years of free service (free labour). The warranty follows the vehicle and is transferable to the next owner. Chery Malaysia is offering the first 3,000 customers an engine warranty of 10 years (or 1 million km). If you are not an early bird buyer, you will still get the 7 years (or 150,000 km). But if you really want the 10-year engine warranty, you can pay RM2,000 to enjoy the extended warranty package.
