Chery Malaysia Takes Delivery Of First Locally Assembled Vehicles

Chery’s investment in Malaysia bore its first fruit as it takes delivery of its first batch of locally assembled vehicles. The first CKD (completely knocked down) units of Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro were handed over by Mr. Sui Keng Huat, Managing Director of Inokom Corporation, to Mr. Xu Jing Zhong, Plant Operation Director of Chery Malaysia. Inokom, based in Kulim, Kedah, is the appointed contract assembler for CheryChery Malaysia_Inokom Corporation_Local Assembly_CKD

This is a significant occasion for Chery Malaysia as it is a consequential step in its commitment to the local automotive industry. Entering Malaysia as an entity on its own, Chery had committed to investing in local assembly operations, besides its commitment to offer the best driving and ownership experience to customers.

Chery Malaysia is looking at plans to further enhance its CKD manufacturing capabilities, investing in cutting-edge technology, and closer collaborations with local suppliers to support the automotive ecosystem in Malaysia. This endeavour would not only help bolster its position to be a leader in the automotive industry but also would contribute to the economic development of the region.

As an aside, China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) reported that China’s automotive exports in the first quarter of 2023 exceeded 1.07 million vehicles. This makes China the world’s largest auto exporter, surpassing Japan.

Similarly, the Chery Group is making waves globally as it achieved a cumulative sales volume of 741,400 vehicles in the first half of 2023, a year-on-year increase of 56%. Meanwhile, the cumulative sales volume for the Chery brand itself in the first half of the year was 539,400 units, a year-on-year increase of 50.9%. The Chery Group also sells vehicles under the Exeed, Jetour and Karry marques. Chery Tiggo 5X Pro

This is not only a new high in its semi-annual sales history, but the company had also exceeded sales of 100,000 vehicles in a single month for 13 consecutive months. Incidentally, among the car manufacturers in China, Chery is also the leading exporter of passenger vehicles, a position it has held for the past 20 years.

Chery_New Generation Vehicle_EV_ConnectedSince its establishment 26 years ago, Chery had insisted on independent research and development, and solidifying its technologies and intellectual properties. At the beginning of last year, Chery had applied for 20,794 patents and gained 13,153 authorised patents, including 3,692 invention patents, ranking it the innovation leader among other Chinese automakers. Chery’s R&D has resulted in technologies such as the Lion system which supports functions such as voice control, facial recognition, AR navigation, internet and smart home services, and Kunpeng Power powertrain architecture.
