See A Mix Of EV & Modified Cars At Malaysia International Motor Expo And International Automodified Kuala Lumpur
The 2023 Malaysia International Motor Expo (MIME) will be paired with the International Automodified (IAM) Kuala Lumpur this October. Endorsed by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), the IAM-MIME 2023 show will be showcasing 3 automotive genres under one roof i.e. new cars from legacy automakers and new brands, electric vehicles, as well as modified vehicles.
The exhibits will encompass curated vehicles, related products, and the latest innovations in automotive technology by industry stakeholders, dealers and original equipment manufacturers.
Among the vehicles expected will be models from Mercedes-Benz Malaysia such as the EQB 350 SUV, as well as from the Bermaz Auto group (Mazda, Kia & Peugeot). Also expected is a modified Tesla by Exotic Mods Sdn Bhd, an independent Tesla and European sales, spare parts and service & repair centre. Furthermore, there will be vehicles from the JPM Museo collection which is one of the largest private collections of hypercars and iconic cars in Malaysia, as well as supercars from Utama Motors.
“Beyond the promotion of the automotive industry, MARii’s agenda is very much aligned with Malaysia’s responsibility regarding energy transition and decarbonisation. On this note, I’m very happy to note that the organisers of the Malaysia International Motor Expo have focused on the electric vehicle mega trend and allocated a central location for the display of some of the leading EV brands in the world,” said MARii Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Ts Nizmar Mohd Nazar. Also present at the show’s launch was Chairman of MIME, Yang Mulia Sharifah Wani Jamalullail.
According to MIME founder, Yamin Vong, the show will allow visitors to experience the latest electric vehicles in the market. It will also be conducting a digital poll for “People’s Choice Car of the Year” and participants of this poll stand to win hourly prizes. The “People’s Choice Car of the Year” award will be announced at a different ceremony scheduled for 15 November 2023.
As for the IAM, this showcase will feature about 300 customised cars at the venue. IAM is one of the largest and longest running modified car shows in Southeast Asia. The show has toured over 38 cities throughout Indonesia since it began in 2001, and has since expanded to hosting shows in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Last year’s IAM-MIME team-up featured over 100 modified cars and counted about 104,000 visitors over the 3-day show. The organisers expect visitor numbers to triple this year.
“The show has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. There is a huge following and love for modified cars in the region especially in Malaysia and this is extremely evident from the high quality of cars on display,” said IAM founder Reza Aliwarga. “The interest to display cars has been phenomenal and there are almost 1,000 modified cars on the list we have to vet through before meticulously selecting the final 300 for the show”.
The IAM show will first head to Singapore (21 – 22 October) before coming to Kuala Lumpur, following which it will return to Jakarta (2 – 3 December) and Bangkok (9 – 10 December). It is also planning to debut a show in the United States in the summer of 2024.
Besides cars, the International Automodified and Malaysia International Motor Expo 2023 will also feature racing simulators, remote controlled models, car club gatherings, royal exotic cars as well as a music festival and giveaways. The show will be held at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur from 27 – 29 October 2023.
