Hilux GR Sport Variant Joins The Toyota Family In Malaysia

Already a popular pick for Malaysians, the Toyota Hilux family gets a new variant in i.e. the Hilux GR Sport. The Hilux has been the best-selling pickup truck in Malaysia for over 20 years and is well known for its toughness and capabilities.

The Hilux GR Sport adds a sportier choice to the range for customers who are fans of GAZOO Racing and its experience in motorsport, especially the gruelling Dakar Rally. Based off of the locally assembled Hilux Double Cab 2.8 Rogue, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport comes with a new front grille, grille frame, and overfenders finished in the body colour, as well as black and red decals. Additionally, the foglight surrounds, door mirrors and sport bar are blacked out for a sportier look. The 18″ alloy wheel design is exclusive to the Hilux GR Sport and is fitted with 265/60 R18 highway tyres. To complete the sporty GR appearance, the front brake calipers are painted red, and have the GR logo.

This provides a higher damping force and optimal front-rear suspension balance to give outstanding handling, increased stability during cornering and precise steering response.

The powertrain though, remains unchanged with the 2.8L 1GD-FTV turbo diesel engine with 240 PS @ 3,400 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,600 – 2,800 rpm, which is transferred to the wheels via a 6-speed electronically controlled automatic gearbox and part time 4×4 system. Incidentally, the Hilux GR Sport also gets paddle shifters (unlike the Corolla Cross GR Sport), which is also a first in the Hilux range. Toyota Hilux_GR Sport_2.8 Litre Turbo Diesel Engine

Further setting it apart from other Hilux are front seats which have a different frame structure, because they are adapted from the Fortuner. The seats are covered in a combination leather material with suede and red upper bolsters, and a GR logo on the headrests (front seats only). Like other GR variants, there is also red stitching in many areas such as the leather-wrapped steering wheel, push-start button and smart key fob. Further, the Optitron meters on the instrument panel have a GR theme with red accents as well as a GR welcome animation. Aluminium sports pedals are also included for this variant.

Safety-wise, the Hilux GR Sport includes Automatic Limited Slip Differential, Active Traction Control, and rear differential lock for improved traction and stability in off-road conditions. It is also equipped with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) which includes Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, and Lane Departure Alert. There are also reverse sensors and a reverse camera to help during parking. You can also choose the optional Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) which provides a 360-degree view using 4 cameras mounted around the vehicle for more assistance.

The Toyota Hilux GR Sport comes with 3 body colours i.e. Super White II, Attitude Black Mica or Crimson Spark Red Metallic. It is priced at RM159,880 (on the road without insurance in Pen. Malaysia). Toyota Hilux GR Sport_GR Models
