2023 Volvo XC40 Facelift Comes With New Features

Volvo Car Malaysia has announced that the Volvo XC40 model year 2023 is now available for booking. This XC40 facelift comes not long after the introduction of the all-electric XC40 Recharge Pure Electric in March 2022.

The 2022 stock for the locally assembled XC40 Recharge Pure Electric had been exhausted a few months following its launch. This is the first-ever pure electric vehicle to be assembled in Malaysia and as such was only available in limited numbers. Shortly after the introduction, Volvo had received over 400 orders for the first locally assembled battery electric vehicle (BEV), with customers receiving their purchase in June 2022. The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is also the first Volvo vehicle that was made available for bookings online.Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric_Headlights_DRL_Badge

  • Remote Air Purifier PM2.5 pre-cleaning
  • Updated front and rim designs
  • Charcoal Connect Suede textile interiors
  • Updated Foot Movement Detection Module (FMDM)
  • New gear lever sculpted with leather-free charcoal gear shift

Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric_BEV_Charging“The astounding success of the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric tells me we are moving in the right direction with our all-electric journey,” said Charles Frump, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia. “Since the introduction of our electrification agenda, we are constantly seeking ways to improve customers’ driving experiences. With the new upgrades of the model year 2023 XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, we believe customers can expect an enhanced driving experience that provides them the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable and safe way.” Volvo Car Malaysia also exports to neighbouring ASEAN countries.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric runs 2 electric motors, one on each axle, that provide 402 hp (300 kW) and 660 Nm of torque. Powered by a floor-mounted 78 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack, this BEV can do a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 4.9 seconds. However, its top speed is limited to 180 km/h, in compliance with Volvo’s global safety intention.

The official driving range afforded by the battery is now 438 km on a single charge (WLTP*), an increase from the previous official figure of 418 km. Charging can be done via a Type 2 connector with the battery able to take a maximum of 11 kW via AC (alternating current) charging, and be fully charged in about 7.5 hours. The faster DC (direct current) charging is also an option but requires a different connector. The battery needs just 28 minutes to get from 10% to 80% SoC (state of charge) from empty, via fast DC charging of up to 150 kW.

The model year 2023 updates are also available for the XC40 Recharge T5 Ultimate (plug-in hybrid) and the XC40 B5 Ultimate (mild hybrid). They will also receive a facelift to their design which includes a Dynamic Chassis change. The XC40 models will be available in 6 colour options i.e. Black Stone, Crystal White, Sage Green, Silver Dawn, Thunder Grey and the latest Fjord Blue.

The model year 2023 XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is priced at RM278,888** while both the XC40 Recharge T5 Ultimate and XC40 B5 Ultimate are priced at RM268,888**.
