Hyundai To Launch 10-Seater Staria Variant Soon
Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has confirmed that the company will be launching a 10-seater variant of the Hyundai Staria soon. According to Mr. Low Yuan Lung, Managing Director of HSDM, the 10-seater Staria is an anticipated model, and will complement the more premium and luxurious 7-seater variant that was launched in Q4 2021. This 10-seater MPV is expected to be introduced in Q4 2022.
“We have been getting enquiries for the 10-seater variant as there has been anticipation that the 10-seater variant will replace the Starex. Like the Starex, this 10-seater variant is ideal for big families, tour operators and businesses but with vast improvements and more functionalities in every aspect of the vehicle as compared to the Starex,” said Mr. Low.
It will also get the 2.2L CRDi turbo diesel engine and 8-speed automatic transmission combo like its 7-seater sibling. The engine is capable of delivering 177 PS @ 3,800 rpm and 431 Nm of torque @ 1,500 – 2,500 rpm. With a high-efficiency, air-cooled turbocharger that has an improved compressor and turbine wheel, this engine has improved low speed torque performance.
The Staria wears Hyundai’s new futuristic design language. Its sleek exterior is defined by a single stroke running from front to rear, taking inspiration from the curve of light that illuminates Earth’s horizon at sunrise when viewed from space.
The daytime running lights and position lamps run horizontally across the fascia of the vehicle. These are situated above the headlights that are surrounded by a uniquely patterned and bold front grille. Hyundai uses the same body color for all frontal parts to maximise the vehicle’s modern and pure styling. Its rear design meanwhile emphasises brevity and sleekness, with parametric pixel rear lamps and a large rear glass.
The cabin has generous legroom that is among the best in its segment, and can be converted into expansive additional cargo space when all seats are pushed together. This is made possible by the versatile long sliding seat function. Additionally, the rear passenger seats can go into full-flat mode and makes this vehicle the perfect choice for activities that require a lot of room and interior flexibility e.g. camping and transportation of bulky items.
The 10-seater Staria will come in 3 variants i.e. Lite, Plus and Max. HSDM expects prices to start from RM170,000. The lower price range would mainly be due to the tax structure for 10- / 11-seater vehicles, and likely fewer premium features like the 7-seater.
