Perodua Production Rate Improves

Perodua has seen its production rate improve in August 2022 as the company works around the constraints. Last month was the best month thus far in 2022 where production output is concerned. Its factories managed to produce 28,036 vehicles as a result of improvements in the supply chain e.g. component supply and insufficient workforce at its suppliers’ operations. As a result, Perodua’s vehicle registration for the month of August increased by nearly 42% to 26,039 vehicles (compared to 18,346 vehicles in July 2022). The company managed to deliver 6,808 units of Bezza, 6,252 Myvi and 4,857 Axia.Perodua Bezza_1.3 AV_Front Left

“We are currently trying to build on this improvement to ensure speedier delivery to our customers,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said. “On the newly launched Alza, we received bookings of 51,000 units so far, with 7,682 units registered in July and August”. The all-new Perodua Alza was launched on 20 July 2022 and it had received about 30,000 bookings prior to the launch.

According to Dato’ Sri Zainal, some of the key issues affecting production and sales such as the semiconductor chip supply shortage and insufficient labour have been resolved at the moment. “We are also closely monitoring the increase in prices of raw materials at the moment and are working with the ecosystem on how best to mitigate this impact to our operations,” he added.

Perodua_ShowroomIn the first 8 months of this year, Perodua has recorded an increase of 63.7% in vehicle registration i.e. 171,728 vehicles compared with 104,933 units registered in the same period last year. However, this year-to-date comparison is distorted as the country was in a lockdown between 1 June 2021 and 15 August 2021. During that time, all non-essential operations included car production and sales were suspended.

“In terms of registration by model between January and August this year, the Perodua Myvi is still our best-seller at 48,658 units, followed by the Bezza with 39,642 units, and Axia 37,013 units,” Dato’ Sri Zainal added.Perodua Myvi_Rear_1.5 AV
