All-New Perodua Alza Launched; 30,000 Bookings Received

After all the online hype, the all-new Perodua Alza has finally broken cover. And it looks to be another winner for the brand, as according to Perodua, the company has received over 30,000 bookings before the official launch. This is the largest number of bookings the company has achieved in its history. Granted that this is also due to buyers taking advantage of the sales tax exemption period, which ended 30 June 2022, it nonetheless is quite an achievement. Significantly, about 4,000 of these are orders converted from the preceding Alza.

The 7-seater Perodua Alza launches with 3 variants available i.e. Alza X (RM62,500), Alza H (RM68,000), and the range-topping Alza AV (RM75,500). These prices are for private registration in Peninsular Malaysia, with sales tax but without insurance.

All of them are powered by the familiar 1.5L 2NR-VE engine with Dual VVT-i, that is paired with a D-CVT (similar to the Ativa). The engine produces 105 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm. Officially, fuel economy is listed at 22 km/l.

Standard equipment includes LED headlights with Follow-me-home and Leaving home functions, LED rear combination lamps, 6 airbags (front, side and curtain), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill-Start Assist (HSA), ISOFIX with top tether, as well as the Perodua Smart Drive Assist suite.

Perodua_Advanced Safety Assist_Cameras_Drive RecorderSmart Drive Assist is divided into 4 categories i.e. Advanced Safety Assist, Driving Assist, Parking Assist and Headlamp Assist. In the first category, all ASA features are found in every variant i.e. Pre-collision Warning, Pre-collision Braking, Pedal Misoperation Control, and Front Departure Alert, while in the 2nd category (Driving Assist), the standard features are Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention; Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Control, and Blind Spot Monitor are available only in the AV variant.

Likewise for the Parking Assist features, the common feature is the Rear Corner Sensors. The H variant adds Front Corner Sensors, but the AV gets Reverse Camera, Panoramic View Monitor, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. For Headlamp Assist, the X variant has Auto High Beam function while the H and AV get Adaptive Driving Beam.

The range-topper AV also enjoys rear solid disc brakes, side skirting, 2-tone instrument panel, 2-tone combination leather seats and a different console layout with padded armrest due to the use of electronic parking brake.

Some of the features shared by the H and AV variants are the auto headlights with sequential turn signals, LED fog lamps, chrome back door garnish, 7″ TFT multi-info display, 9″ infotainment touchscreen, 6 speakers, 1 front and 2 rear USB ports, 1 rear and 1 deck 12V socket, leather wrapped steering, and key-free entry and push button start.

Perodua Alza_AV_Ivory White (Solid)The new Alza is built on the new DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform, and has a 2,750 mm wheelbase. The front-wheel-drive platform is shared with the Daihatsu Xenia, Toyota Avanza and Toyota Veloz. Design and development of this MPV was a collaborative effort with Daihatsu Motor Co of Japan, to improve commonality and economies of scale while still maintaining some degree of brand customisation and differentiation. Perodua had invested about RM770 million in the Alza’s development since April 2018.

This MPV’s dimensions are 4,425 mm (length), 1,730 mm (width) and 1,670 mm (height), for the latter 2 variants which use 16″ wheels. For the base X variant, it gets 15″ alloy wheels and is 10 mm lower in height. This also impacts ground clearance i.e. 160 mm vs 150 mm (for the X). Cargo volume however, are the same for all i.e. 137 litres (all 7 seats used), and 498 litres (3rd row seats folded down). One of its unique features is the flexible seat arrangement which include fully reclining front and 2nd row seats.

Exterior colour choices include Vintage Brown (new colour only for H and AV), Elegant Black, Garnet Red, Glittering Silver and Ivory White. There are also a variety of GearUp accessories for the exterior and interior to pick from.
