Chery Maintains Lead In Exports Among China’s Passenger Car Makers

Chinese automaker, Chery, continues to lead in passenger car exports among the leading car makers in China. The brand has retained this leader position for 19 consecutive years and it looks to stay that way. The first 2 months of 2022 saw Chery achieve a significant 33.9% year-on-year (YoY) increase in exports i.e. 46,897 vehicles. This is about 32% of the brand’s total vehicle sales of 147,459 in the same 2 months.

Chery Tiggo 5X ProSouth America is an important region for Chery. In Brazil, it ranks in the top 9 for passenger car sales. Based on National Motor Vehicle Distribution Federation (Fenabrave) data, Chery sold 3,241 vehicles in February 2022. Its year-to-date sales now stands at 6,372 units, accounting for 3.36% of the passenger car market. The Chery Arrizo 6 Pro came out 4th in the car segment with a 5.35% market share. In Chile, the Asociación Nacional Autoriz de Chile A.G. (ANAC) data shows Chery’s February sales jumped 63% YoY, giving it a 7.7% market share. The brand ranks 2nd among all automotive brands, and its year-to-date sales is up 114% YoY. The Tiggo 2 range maintains its top position in the SUV segment in terms of sales.

Overall, Chery sold 60,419 vehicles in February 2022, up 26.4% YoY. From this total, 19,997 vehicles were sold outside China (+9.3% YoY). This is despite the global chip shortage, which Chery International mitigated through the introduction of new products and technologies, plus the constant creation of more value for its customers.

Chery Automobile_Production LineThere are currently more than 10 million Chery users globally, including 2 million outside of China. Chery has 6 research and development (R&D) bases, 10 overseas manufacturing plants and over 1,500 overseas sales and service outlets. It has plans to hit an export target of 400,000 vehicles annually and become a significant global brand. Outside of China, it has a total production capacity of 200,000 units a year.
