The prices are on-the-road without insurance, and valid until the tax-free incentive period expires.
“The new locally-assembled Mercedes-Benz E-Class continues to set the standards in automotive luxury. It has gone through several stages of redefinition over the years to maintain the variety of top-class innovations, memorable highlights and a luxurious, stylish interior with high-value perception. The new E-Class creates history by going the extra mile in the evolution of safety, comfort and performance while upholding the standards of design and luxury. Customers will get to experience first-hand, the latest-in-class luxury and performance as well as superior technology,” said Sagree Sardien, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Michael Jopp, VP of Marketing and Sales at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia said “The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been the heart of the Mercedes-Benz brand for many generations. This emotionally appealing and at the same time intelligent vehicle is also extremely successful in Malaysia. To date, more than 10,000 customers in Malaysia have bought the current generation E-Class limousines. Adding to this success, today the E-Class limousines have undergone a comprehensive update featuring top of the line additions such as the next-generation MBUX infotainment system and the class-leading safety and assistance systems. Customers can rest assured knowing that when it comes to comfort, luxury and safety, the E-Class is truly at the top of its class. ”
The new E-Class gets upgrades in appearance and dynamics. The expressive design ensures an agile overall impression. As standard, the E 200 comes with the attractive Avantgarde exterior, which emphasises the elegance of the vehicle. Updated features include a sleek new grille, new LED high performance headlamps and tail lights, and new bonnet with a pronounced power domes. These are complemented by 18″ 5-twin spoke light alloy wheels.
Furthermore, the E 300 AMG Line features a new AMG Performance bumper styling and Multibeam LED headlamps with Ultra Range high beam, as well as larger 19″ AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels.
The E-Class also sports a new rear bumper, split tail lamps and new boot lid. The tail lamps of both variants get revised inner designs. Additionally, there are 2 new paint colours i.e. grey metallic and high-tech silver.
For the interior, the revised E-Class combines materials and innovation that are exclusive to Mercedes-Benz luxury. The seats are upholstered in Artico leather for the Avantgarde model, and leather for the AMG Line. The design of the front seats gives the interior a sporty aura. The seats offer strong lateral support with pronounced side bolsters. Depending on the specification, the centre section has sporty transverse or modern longitudinal seams. The colours of the centre sections of the seat backrest and cushion are also matched to the overall sculpture of the seats.
The driver gets a new multi-function steering wheel wrapped in genuine leather. The control surfaces sport a high-gloss black finish and the trim elements and surrounds are either a light longitudinal-grain aluminium trim (E 200 Avantgarde), or open-pore black ash wood trim (E 300 AMG Line). The instrument cluster and the media display are controlled by swiping the Touch Control buttons, which have changed from optical to capacitive.
Providing convenience and entertainment in the new E-Class is the latest version of the MBUX multimedia system (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). The functions and features are displayed in the Widescreen Cockpit, which comprises 2 12.3″ high resolution displays.
The new E-Class is also fitted with the latest Mercedes-Benz driving assistance systems. One of the features is the hands-off recognition which now works on a capacitive basis. This enhances user-friendliness when driving in semi-automated mode. The new steering wheel now features a pad with sensors in the rim. These register whether the driver is holding the wheel. If the system detects that the driver does not have his / her hands on the steering wheel for a period of time, a warning cascade is activated. This will elevate to the activation of the Emergency Brake Assist function if the driver continues to be inactive.
Standard with the E-Class is Active Brake Assist which uses autonomous braking to prevent a collision or mitigate its severity. The system is also able to brake for stationary vehicles and pedestrians, at typical city speeds. As part of the Driving Assistance Package, this is now also possible when turning off across the oncoming lane.
Meanwhile, the E 300 AMG Line comes with Driving Assistance package Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Steering Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and PRE-SAFE® PLUS.
Further, Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC and 360° camera on the E 300 AMG Line makes it possible to enter and leave parking spaces automatically. The system facilitates the search for and selection of a parking space as well as entering and leaving (if the vehicle was parked automatically) parallel and end-on parking spaces or garages. For the first time, the new E-Class is able to recognise and use parking spaces which are only marked as areas on larger sites, for example. The 360° camera on the E 300 transmits a more realistic image to the media display, which includes an expanded side view. When leaving a parking space, the system is able to warn of crossing traffic behind the vehicle and can apply the brakes.
Another safety feature of the car is URBAN GUARD, which helps to prevent vehicle theft, as well as with parking collision detection. The URBAN GUARD Vehicle Protection package provides all-round monitoring. It comprises an anti-theft alarm system plus tow-away protection which is able to detect changes in position. Movement in the vehicle interior also triggers visual and audible warnings. The driver will be notified of theft or parking damage detection through the Mercedes me app.
The difference between the 2 variants go beyond the trim and features offered. While they both utilise a 2.0L turbocharged engine, they sport different states of tune i.e. 197 hp @ 5,500 – 6,100 rpm and 320 Nm @ 1650-4000 rpm for the E 200 Avantgarde; and 258 hp @ 5,800 – 6,100 rpm and 370 Nm @ 1800-4000 rpm for the E 300 AMG Line. Consequently, the 0 – 100 km/h times are 7.4 seconds and 6.2 seconds respectively; while top speed is capped at 240 km/h and 250 km/h. The official average fuel consumption remains similar for both i.e. 6.9 – 6.5 l/100 km
