Porsche 911 Family Includes Three New GTS Models

Porsche had first introduced the 911 GTS about 12 years ago. And now, it adds new sporty GTS models to the 911 family. There are 5 new GTS model variants available, and they come about one and a half years after the market launch of the 992 generation:

• 911 Carrera GTS with rear-wheel drive, as Coupé and Cabriolet
• 911 Carrera 4 GTS with all-wheel drive, as Coupé and Cabriolet
• 911 Targa 4 GTS with all-wheel drivePorsche 911 Targa 4 GTS

The latest generation is naturally more powerful and comes with improved driving dynamics. Powering the new 911 GTS is a 3.0L 6-cylinder boxer engine which produces 480 PS, 30 PS more than the current 911 Carrera S and the previous 911 GTS. Torque has also increased to 570 Nm (+20 Nm). Handling this power is either an 8-speed Porsche PDK (dual clutch transmission) or 7-speed short throw manual. With this combination, the 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupé with 8-speed PDK can do the century sprint in just 3.3 seconds; 3/10s faster than its predecessor.

Porsche 911 GTSPorsche engineers have also fitted a suspension set-up derived from the 911 Turbo and modified to suit the GTS. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) ensure the dampers respond to dynamic changes at lightning speed. In the Coupé and Cabriolet versions, PASM is standard, combined with a sport chassis that is lowered by 10 mm. The concept of helper springs at the rear stems from the Turbo models where the main springs are under tension in all driving conditions, while rebound remains the same. Additionally, the 911 Targa 4 GTS uses the 911 Targa 4 S chassis with PASM.

Engineers have also adjusted braking performance to match the increased performance of the GTS by making use of the high-performance braking system from the 911 Turbo. The 20″ (front) and 21″ (rear) black, centre-lock alloy wheels are also from the 911 Turbo. Meanwhile, the standard sports exhaust system provides for an even more emotive soundtrack, thanks to its GTS-specific set-up and the omission of some interior insulation.Porsche 911 GTS_Headlights_Grille

Driving dynamics will be further improved with the Lightweight Design package, which will be available on the GTS for the first time. This package shaves off up to 25 kg with the use of lighter items such as the carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) full bucket seats, lightweight glass for the side and rear windows, and lightweight battery. The rear seats are also removed. Other performance enhancements include rear-axle steering as standard in this equipment package and additional aerodynamic finishing touches.

The understated sporty looks of the new 911 GTS models feature black contrasting bodywork elements and darkened headlight areas. On the 911 Targa 4 GTS, this also includes the model-defining hoop and Targa lettering. Additional elements painted in black silk gloss include the spoiler lip, the centre-lock alloy wheels, the engine cover louvres, and the GTS script on the doors and rear of the car. The exterior package, in which these and other details are executed in high-gloss black, can be chosen as an option.

All 911 GTS models effectively have the Sport Design package, with distinctive trim for the front, rear and the side sills. The headlight rims and daytime running light surrounds are darkened, and the car is fitted with standard LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus). The rear lights are also unique to the GTS models.

When it comes to the cabin, the black theme and sporty details continue. Coming standard are a GT Sport steering wheel, the Sport Chrono package with mode switch, Porsche Track Precision app and a tyre temperature display. Moreover, the standard Sport Seats Plus with electric four-way adjustment provide lateral support, comfort and convenience.Porsche 911 GTS_Dashboard_Steering

Numerous Race-Tex features underscore the elegant dynamic ambience. The central sections of the seats, the steering wheel rim, door handles and armrests, storage compartment lid and gear lever are all trimmed in the microfibre material. With the GTS interior package, the decorative seams are available in Carmine Red or Crayon as an option. The seat belts and embroidered GTS lettering on the headrests, rev counter and Sport Chrono clock also come in the same contrasting colours. The decorative inserts on the dashboard and door trim are matte Carbon with the GTS interior package.

The interior insulation has also been intentionally reduced to enhance the emotive driving acoustics. Further, the gear lever of the optional 7-speed manual transmission has been shortened by 10 mm, which enables fast gear shifts with a flick of the wrist.

Enhancing the driving experience within the interior is the latest generation of Porsche Communication Management (PCM) which brings numerous improvements in operation and connectivity. The new generation of PCM features additional functions and significantly simplified operation. The touch areas in the Media menu have been enlarged and the user interface is improved with the new option of rearranging the tiles on the home screen. Furthermore, the improved voice assistant* recognises natural speech and can be activated with “Hey Porsche”.

With Apple Car Play®* and now Android Auto*, iOS and Android users will enjoy full connectivity via the corresponding mobile phones.
