Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) just unveiled its flagship of the popular Triton range i.e. Mitsubishi Triton Athlete. The Triton Athlete replaces the Triton Adventure X at the top of the range, and comes in three exterior colour choices i.e. Sun Flare Orange Pearl, White Diamond and Jet Black Mica.
Fitting its name, the Triton Athlete personifies toughness. Its exterior design is accentuated by a gloss black front under garnish and ‘Dynamic Shield’ front design concept incorporating a glossy black radiator grille and sporty ‘ATHLETE’ graphic design side stripe sticker. The Triton’s tougher appearance is further complemented by a black theme that includes side mirrors, door handles, aero-type window deflectors, 18″ gloss black rims and side steps.
On entry to the cabin, you will be greeted by LED illuminated scuff plates. Inside, the Triton Athlete has orange-stitching on the leather wrapped steering and gear knobs, and also first-in-class rear air circulator.
The Mitsubishi Triton Athlete is powered by a 2.4L MIVEC turbodiesel engine with Variable Valve Timing technology which produces 181 PS and 430 Nm of torque. In terms of safety features, the Triton Athlete comes with class-leading standards such as Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist (BSW with LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS), Auto High Beam (AHB) and 7 SRS airbags.
Additionally, the Super Select 4WD II system with off-road mode enables optimum traction and handling in any given terrain. The Triton Athlete also comes with Hill Descent Control which electronically controls the vehicle speed while it is in a descent mode. The Triton Athlete also delivers an impressive turning radius of 5.9 metres, making parking or turning in the tightest spaces effortless.
The Triton Athlete is also equipped with an All-Round Monitor (ARM), Driving Video Recorder (DVR) and 7″ Touchscreen Audio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-ready connectivity as standard. The ARM, DVR, and infotainment system upgrades are offered by MMM authorised dealers.
The Mitsubishi Triton Athlete is covered by a 5-year or 200,000 km warranty, whichever comes first. For its Financial Year 2020 (April 2020 – March 2021), the company sold 7,598 units which is a 32% year-on-year increase.
