2021 Toyota Innova Launched In Malaysia
The 2021 Toyota Innova has been officially launched in Malaysia. The prices of the three variants confirmed by UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) are RM129,677 (Innova 2.0X); RMRM121,483 (Innova 2.0G); and RM111,622 (Innova 2.0E).
The Toyota Innova has been updated with subtle design changes for a more refined look. The front grille sports a chrome and black theme, while the door mirrors have chrome housings for a classier look. Meanwhile, the fog lamps and bezels have also been redesigned to aid with a bolder appearance.
The range-topping Innova 2.0X also comes with an Enhancement Package. This exclusive package has new wheel arch mouldings for protecting the bodywork, new side mouldings and redesigned side skirts that add a sporty touch. At the rear, the garnish on the tailgate has been restyled to visually widen the vehicle, while the roof spoiler (only for the Innova 2.0X) has been slightly re-profiled for aerodynamic improvements. The wheels are maintained, with the flagship Innova 2.0X wearing 17″ alloy wheels finished in a new Dark Grey Metallic colour and fitted with 215/55 R17 tyres. Meanwhile, the wheels for the Innova 2.0G and 2.0E are 16″ alloys in a refreshed dual-tone finish and fitted with 205/65 R16 tyres.
Interior specs include bright and clear Optitron meters for the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G, with a 4.2″ colour Multi-Information Display (MID) in between the meters to report on items like fuel consumption or remaining range. UMWT has also fitted the car with more charging ports based on customer feedback. The 2 USB ports in the front are repositioned in the dashboard from the centre console while the third row seats also gains USB ports. All ports have Fast Charging capability for compatible smartphones and other portable devices. Additionally, a wireless charging pad in the centre console is also available as an option for all variants.
For 2021, additional features have been added to improve safety. The Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) comes standard for the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G, and is optional for the Innova 2.0E. This systems use sensors on the body and bumpers to detect other vehicles in the blind spot or approaching from either side when reversing out of a parking spot.
Also standard for the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G is the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) which uses cameras around the body to capture a 360-degree view around the vehicle. The selectable viewing angles help the driver to spot hazards to avoid and is useful in narrow or tight spaces.
Further, all variants get 7 SRS airbags and every seat on all three rows has a 3-point auto-retracting seatbelt. All variants also get ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), as well as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC). The extensive standard safety systems that are provided in the entire Innova range has made it possible for the Innova to receive the maximum 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating. Contributing to this is the strong body structure which resists deformation while also dissipates impact energy before it can harm the occupants.
Besides the standard electronic security system, UMWT has installed a Toyota Vehicle Telematics System (VTS) as standard in the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G to provide greater peace of mind to owners. The VTS is an option for the Innova 2.0E. This system can track the vehicle’s movements using GPS and GSM technology. If the vehicle is stolen, the VTS Command Centre can determine its location and inform relevant authorities to make recovery faster.
No changes are made to the powertrain. It continues to be powered by a 2.0L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine tuned for fuel efficiency and stronger mid-range torque. The engine produces 139 PS @ 5,600 rpm and 183 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed Super ECT electronic automatic transmission.
The Toyota Innova comes with six exterior colour choices i.e. Medium Silver Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, Phantom Brown, Silver Metallic, Super White II and Bronze Mica Metallic (new). For the Innova 2.0X, there is an additional choice of Crimson Spark Red Metallic.
The Innova is covered by a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage (subject to terms and conditions).
