PayNet Enables Debit Card Payments At Petron Stations Without Need For Pre-Authorisation

Petron_Fuel PumpsThere is good news for those who regularly use their debit / ATM cards to pay for fuel. Payments for fuel with MyDebit ATM cards at the petrol pump terminals will no longer require the RM200 pre-authorisation hold for three days. Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) which provides the payments network infrastructure is first collaborating with Petron to offer this convenience. The current practice is for the payment system to withhold RM200 for up to three days for a fuel purchase transaction, even if the purchase amount is RM5. PayNet and the 22 participating banks are eliminating this practice and Petron is the first petrol station network to see this implementation.

In conjunction with this roll-out, PayNet and Petron launched the “Fuel Penuh Gaya MyDebit Je with your ATM Card!” campaign to reward customers who use their debit / ATM cards for fuel at any of the over 700 Petron fuel stations nationwide.

Doing so will put you in the running to win one of the 169 prizes. The prizes are:

  • 3x Kawasaki Z250 ABS
  • 5x Modenas Pulsar NS200 ABS
  • 10x GoPro Hero8 Black
  • 50x Petron Miles Points worth RM500 each

  • 36 hotel stay vouchers courtesy of Tourism Malaysia
    • Participating hotels include: Lexis Hotels & Resorts; Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa, Langkawi; Gloria Residences Ion Delemen Genting Highlands; Federal International Group and Iconic Hotel Penang.

This campaign is also an opportunity to collaborate with Tourism Malaysia to encourage domestic tourism and spending to help rejuvenate the local economy.

“We are very pleased with our continued collaboration with Petron Malaysia to encourage cashless payments and more importantly this collaboration has resulted in greater convenience to consumers with the removal of the RM200 pre-authorisation hold. We are honoured to receive the strong support from Yang Berhormat Menteri and Tourism Malaysia in our effort to encourage the rakyat to use cashless payment for their everyday spend. Through such campaigns, we aim to increase the use of MyDebit ATM cards for purchases and payments including when going for Cuti-Cuti Malaysia,” said Mr Peter Schiesser, Group Chief Executive Officer of PayNet.

Petron Malaysia_Faridah Ali_General ManagerPn Faridah Ali, General Manager of Petron Malaysia said: “We are pleased to launch another fascinating campaign with PayNet, this time in partnership with Tourism Malaysia to help promote domestic travel through the MyDebit ATM card. This mode of payment at our stations has proven to be faster, more secure, and more convenient, and we hope more of our customers could try it out as well. Despite the pandemic, we want to still be able to fuel the best customer experiences while contributing to our country’s continued recovery.”
