All-New Toyota Yaris Hatchback Launched In Malaysia; Priced From RM70,888

The all-new Toyota Yaris hatchback is officially launched in Malaysia with three variants on offer, starting from RM70,888. The Yaris 1.5J retails at RM70,888; Yaris 1.5E at RM76,888; and Yaris 1.5G at RM83,888. All prices quoted are on-the-road without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia.

No surprises that the Yaris is the hatchback version of the recently-launched Vios sedan. They both share the same face, but a different rear light layout. Both models are locally assembled at UMW Toyota’s new Bukit Raja plant. According to Mr Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, this new addition to the brand’s range shows the company’s support for the government’s aspiration of more localisation in vehicle production.

Powering all three variants of the Yaris is the 1.5L 2NR-FE four-cylinder engine with Dual VVT-i that has been tuned for fuel efficiency and smooth delivery of torque and power. It features a new Engine Integrated Control unit for more linear starts, as well as enhanced Flex Lock-Up Control which helps save fuel when decelerating. The engine is paired with a seven-speed CVT with Sport Sequential Shiftmatic and has an output of 107 PS and 140 Nm.

The Yaris gets halogen headlamps, LED daytime running lights, shark fin antenna, powered wing mirrors with integrated turn signals, keyless entry and push-button start, a suspension set-up with MacPherson struts at the front and torsion beam at the rear for improved storage space, 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating, seven airbags, Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, and Hill-start Assist Control. Further, all variants have 60:40 folding rear seats and fabric upholstery.
