The Kia Optima GT Now Available In Malaysia

Naza Kia Malaysia, the official distributor of Kia vehicles in Malaysia, has brought in the 4th generation Kia Optima mid-size sedan and has kept its offering to a single variant – the Optima GT.

Bearing strong resemblance to its predecessor, the all-new Kia Optima GT is actually bigger – 10 mm longer, 30 mm wider and 10 mm taller, on a wheelbase that’s 10 mm longer. The increase in size provides a roomier interior, with 10 mm more headroom, 25 mm more legroom and 17 mm more shoulder room at the rear and 20 mm more in front.

Kia Optima GT Side View, Malaysia Launch 2017The Kia Optima GT is powered by the Theta II 2.0 T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine that’s coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain produces 242 hp at 6,000rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,400 rpm, making the Optima GT one of the most powerful in its class. 0 – 100 km/h acceleration is officially timed at 7.4 seconds while average fuel consumption is rated at 8.5 liters per 100 km. There are 3 driving modes to pick – Sport, Normal and Eco, which alters the throttle and steering response.

The GT trim is a more aggressive and sportier design which includes a Dot Array Mesh Satin Chrome front signature grille, sporty front (with air curtain) and rear bumpers as well as dual exhausts and a diffuser.

As Naza Kia is offering just one variant, it comes highly spec’d, with automatic LED headlamps with Dynamic Bending Light and daytime running lights, panoramic sunroof, multi-function flat-bottomed steering wheel (with paddle shifters), wireless charging for smartphones with overheat protection, automatic wipers, remote window control, powered ventilated seats with memory, as well as smart trunk opening. The smart trunk works when you stand with the smart key near the trunk for 3 seconds, when all doors are closed and locked i.e. no kicking under the bumper.

Other interior features include a 7″ TFT LCD screen with MP3, MP4, Bluetooth, iPod connectivity and a MirrorLink feature, dual zone climate control and rear ventilation.

On safety, the Kia Optima GT is equipped with 6 airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) which flashes the hazard automatically when emergency brakes are applied. It is also rated 5 stars in the EuroNCAP crash test, 5 stars in Asian NCAP, 5.1 stars in US NCAP and 1st grade in the Korean NCAP crash test.

The Kia Optima GT is offered in 3 colors – Gravity Blue, Aurora Black and Snow White Pearl; Blue gets black leather upholstery while Black & White get red leather. Priced at RM 179,888 (on the road with insurance), the Kia Optima GT is covered by a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.
