Malaysia is the only country outside Japan to introduce Honda’s new intelligent Dual-Clutch Drive (i-DCD) Hybrid System which is equipped with a new 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine. The Sport Hybrid i-DCD combines a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission with integrated High Power Motor to promote superior acceleration with improved response resulting in a sporty drive experience for the driver. Electric Vehicle (EV) mode drivability is also promoted by having independently functioning motor and engine which assists in sustaining regenerative energy and enhances fuel efficiency.

The Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) for the Sport Hybrid i-DCD system is lighter than the preceding Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) and can generate 1.5 times its energy capacity and double the system output; the lithium-ion battery pack is placed on the floor so cabin space isn’t compromised. This enables the new New Jazz Hybrid to produce 137 PS which is equivalent to the output of a 1.8L engine. The maximized power output by the Sport Hybrid i-DCD system is aimed at providing a sporty driving experience.

Honda Jazz 2017 Preview, MalaysiaMeanwhile, the petrol version of the new Jazz will be powered by a 1.5L i-VTEC engine coupled with Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) developed with Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology. It will feature a new chrome front grille, new front and rear bumper design, dual tone alloy wheels and LED daytime running lights. Smart Entry and Push Start Button are standard features across all variants. Also available are Brake Assist (BA), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), 6 Airbags and ISOFIX anchors, as well as half-leather seats and reverse camera, although some of these might be only for the higher variants but Honda Malaysia has been known to pull pleasant surprises.

The popular Ultra Seats which the Jazz is known for continue its existence in the new Jazz, with 4 modes i.e. Utility, Long, Tall and Refresh for added versatility.

If you missed the Carlist.my / MAA event, you can still view the new Jazz (albeit the petrol version) at the upcoming Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2017 Race Entry Pack Collection from 18 – 20 May at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, as well as on Race Day (21 May) at Dataran Merdeka. Subsequently, the new Jazz will go on a nationwide road tour.
