New BMW 5 Series Launched In Malaysia

The premium executive sedan segment in Malaysia is getting exciting with the launch of the new 7th generation BMW 5 Series. Codenamed G30, this 5 Series is already an award winner, picked by a panel of 58 international design experts for the Gold Award at the recent iF Design Awards 2017; it’s also a finalist for the World Luxury Car of the Year Award 2017.

The new 5 Series is marketed as the ‘Business Athlete’ and makes gains in largeness and lightness; it has now gained 29 mm in length (total 4,936 mm), 8 mm in width (total 1,868 mm and 2 mm in height (total 1,479 mm) but lost 100 kg in weight with the more extensive use of lightweight aluminum and high-tensile steel. With the aid of aerodynamic elements, including the air vent control in the signature kidney grille, air inlets and air curtains in the front apron, and air breathers in the front wings, the 5 Series has a drag coefficient of 0.22, the best of any sedan.

The 5 Series comes in only 530i M Sport guise. The M Sport package includes 19″ M light-alloy wheels in double spoke style with mixed tires, M Sport brakes with blue painted calipers with ‘M’ designation, as well as M Aerodynamics components in the body color, front and rear aprons and sill covers at the side. In the cabin, the 5 Series is fitted with sports seats for the driver and front passenger, illuminated M door sill finishers, new M-specific pedals, and M leather steering wheel.

The BMW 530i M Sport is powered by a 2-liter 4-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo engine that is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine has a twin scroll turbocharger, high precision direct injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control and a Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing; power output is rated at 252 hp and torque of 350 Nm. 0 – 100 km/h is timed at 6.2 seconds. Speed tops out at 250 km/h. The official average fuel consumption is 5.8 liters per 100 km.

In addition to the COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO driving modes, there’s a new ADAPTIVE mode which works alongside Dynamic Damper Control (DDC) and Navigation System Professional where the steering, DDC and Steptronic systems automatically adapts to the current driving style and route ahead, similar to that used in a Rolls-Royce (which is part of the BMW Group).

BMW 530i M Sport G30 Adaptive LED Headlight Malaysia LaunchWhen it comes to the goodies, BMW has equipped the 530i with Adaptive LED headlights with roundabout light and high beam that reaches 500 meters. It also comes with the latest-generation iDrive system, which displays navigation and entertainment features, including vehicle functions on a high-resolution 10.25″ touchscreen.

The system can be operated via the iDrive controller, voice command, gestures, or touchscreen. The large, tile-style panels can be arranged as desired to show the content of the underlying menus in constantly updated form. The BMW Gesture Control is an intuitive feature that works with distinguishable gestures for accurate recognition to allow the driver to maintain focus on the road. Other features include the LCD meter display, 4-zone automatic air conditioning, electrically adjustable sport seats with Memory function for the driver as well as heat and sun protection glazing.

Besides these, the 530i also features the BMW ConnectedDrive system which includes Intelligent Emergency Call, BMW Teleservices, Concierge Services and Remote Services.

In terms of safety, BMW has also loaded the 530i with Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function (which adjusts the pre-set speed according to the traffic situation based on radar and camera data) which now also recognizes roundabouts and motorway exits and controls acceleration accordingly; Speed Limit Info with Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (which detects speed limits and feeds them into the Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function); Lane Departure Warning and Lane Change Warning; Approach Control Warning & Person Warning with City Brake function (which warns and brakes within a speed range from approximately 10 km/h to 60 km/h for persons and up to 80 km/h for vehicles; in unavoidable collisions, the City Brake function helps reduce the impact speed and the severity of the accident while Approach Control Warning warns of potential collision with a vehicle ahead at higher speeds, with preconditioning of the brakes for faster brake response and shorter braking distances); Crossing-Traffic Warning Rear (which detects surrounding oncoming traffic when reversing out of parking spaces; aided by the rear view camera); and Prevention of Rear Collision function (which detects threat of rear collisions via rear sensors and warns the traffic behind via the hazard warning lights).

The new BMW 530i M Sport is available in Black Sapphire, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, Alpine White and Mediterranean Blue. Interior leather upholstery is either Dakota Black with contrast Blue stitching or Dakota Cognac with contrast stitching (only for the Alpine White, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, and Black Sapphire).
The car will be available at all authorized BMW dealerships nationwide from this weekend and will also be displayed at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Main Entrance from 31 March – 2 April 2017 (visitors can participate in interactive activities and stand a chance to win an exclusive experience with BMW).

The retail price of RM 398,800 is on-the-road, without insurance, and with BMW Group Malaysia’s latest 5 Years Unlimited Mileage Warranty, Free Scheduled Service Program and BMW Tyre Warranty Programme. The car is imported completely built-up (CBU) but is priced close to the locally assembled version (which is in the plans) as part of the company’s strategy to reduce the price disparity.
