Speaking at the launch event, Mr. Immo Buschmann, Managing Director of Audi Malaysia said, “The Audi A6 is one of our most successful vehicles and the lynchpin of our product range, making it a symbol of Audi’s leadership in the premium segment. With a newer lightweight aluminium composite construction, a sporty and dynamic chassis, powerful yet even more efficient engines and the latest multimedia systems, the new Audi A6 rewrites the business class standards, placing this distinguished sedan firmly as the leading character in this competitive segment.”

First introduced as the Audi 100 in 1968, the latest addition is its seventh generation, with the name change to the A6 in the middle of its fourth generation.

The looks have not changed much, but there are subtle changes to the front grille which has chrome struts incorporated to make it look even wider and more elegant. Changes were also made to the air inlets, bumpers, side sills, rear lights, tail pipes and headlights. The higher spec 3.0 now can be upgraded with Audi’s proprietary Matrix LED technology that can switch off or dim selected LED’s to prevent blinding approaching cars or even cars ahead.

With aluminium and steel composites, the new A6 weighs in at just 1,535 kg, with rigidity enhanced through clever usage of aluminium and hot-pressed steels to form the backbone of the body construction.

The 1.8 TFSI offers more power, boasting of 190hp and 320 Nm of torque available from as low as 1,400 rpm on account of its turbocharger. Transmission is now a 7-speed S tronic (read as direct clutch transmission, Audi having done away with the CVT. The zero to 100 km/h sprint is achieved in just 7.9 seconds, a full 0.4 seconds faster than its 2.0-litre engine predecessor. Top speed is 233 km/h while fuel economy is rated at just 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres, with a CO2 emission rating of 133 g/km.

The flagship 3.0 TFSI also gets an S tronic 7-speed auto transmission to transfer its 333 horses and 440Nm of torque to the road. The high power output comes through supercharging, and the energy is harnessed through quattro all-wheel drive, which also makes the A6 unerringly agile through corners. The 3.0 makes the standing zero to 100 km/h sprint in just 5.1 seconds, quite a mean feat, while top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h. Despite its immense power, the rated fuel consumption is 7.4 litres per 100 km.

Like all current Audi models, the Audi A6 comes with start/stop system with energy recuperation, Electronic Stabilisation Control (ESC), Traction Control (ASR), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Differential lock (EDL), parking aid plus ABS, and a total of six airbags for the A6 1.8 TFSI, whilst its larger capacity brother gets eight.
