Takata airbag – Honda adds 144k vehicles to recall list
Honda Malaysia today announced that a further 143,970 units of various Honda vehicles manufactured from 2006 to as recently as 2012 has been added to the growing list of vehicles needing to have their defective Takata airbag modules replaced.
Prior to this announcement, Honda had already recalled 87,182 vehicles in May this year followed by a further 46,710 cars in June. This latest announcement takes the total tally of Honda vehicles in Malaysia involved in the massive recall to 277,862 vehicles to date.
Affected models this round are the City (2006-2012 YM), Civic (2006-2011 YM), Civic Hybrid (2007-2011 YM) CR-V (2007-2011 YM), Insight (2011-2012 YM), Jazz (2009-2012 YM) and Stream (2007-2012 YM), all of which require replacement of its driver airbag inflator. Current-selling Honda models are not affected.
Owners of affected Honda vehicles will be notified of the recall in writing by the company. Customers receiving these letters will be advised to send their vehicles to any authorized Honda dealership for inspection with all relevant costs borne by Honda Malaysia.
