Ford EcoSport launched in Malaysia

Ford’s product-led transformation continues apace with the new EcoSport arriving to offer B-segment buyers an SUV alternative to the likes of the City, Vios, and even Ford’s own Fiesta, from which the EcoSport’s underpinnings are derived.

Globally available with the same range of powertrains as found in the Fiesta, the EcoSport arrives in Malaysia with only one engine at the moment, and it is the naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre all-aluminium four-cylinder Ti-VCT powerplant generating outputs of 108hp and 142Nm. All-wheel drive is not available in our market, with the Getrag-sourced 6-speed dry clutch Powershift transmission fitted as standard.

Two trim levels are offered to Malaysian buyers, and they start with the basic Trend model at RM92,888 including insurance. Standard equipment on this variant commendably includes electronic stablity control, hill launch assist, ISOFIX, dual airbags, steering-mounted controls, tilt & telescopic steering adjustment, Ford SYNC with Bluetooth integration, and Voice Command.

Topping in an extra RM11,000 to that sum brings the upper Titanium version to the table, which additionally gets a powered sunroof, auto headlamps, auto wipers, keyless entry, auto climate control, seven airbags, leather upholstery, auto-dimming rear view mirrors, and some additional trimmings for visual differentiation. Both versions are fitted with 16-inch alloy rims, although their designs differ.

A total of five colour options are offered with the EcoSport, although actual availability differs by variant. Midnight Sky and Frozen White are colours available to both, whilst Candy Red is offered only with the Trend model; the Titanium variant exclusively gets Mars Red and Winning Blue.

As with all Ford passenger vehicles available in Malaysia, the all-new EcoSport comes with Ford’s Extended Service Plan (ESP) to provide added peace of mind to customers at no extra cost. Ford ESP is a free three-year or 60,000km maintenance programme that covers parts and labour free of charge.

In addition to routine inspection and maintenance services, Ford’s ESP covers free replacements for selected wear-and-tear items, including spark plugs, shock absorbers, engine belts, brake pads and wiper blades.

We tested the EcoSport earlier this year in a media drive held by Ford’s regional office in Hua Hin, Thailand. Read our first impressions here.
