10,000 bookings for new Honda City

Brace for it, our roads is going to be flooded by the all-new Honda City which, according to Honda Malaysia, has accumulated some 10,000 bookings since its launch a month ago, surpassing the 3,000-unit first-month booking record set by the CR-V last year.

Helping Honda Malaysia to cope with this overwhelming demand is the recent opening of the No.2 Line in Pegoh, which doubled the company’s production capacity in its CKD plant. The company confirms that all 10,000 cars booked thus far will be delivered no later than the end of June.

Available four competitively specced and priced variants ranging from RM75,800 to RM90,800, the new City has evidently struck a winning chord amongst Malaysians. Powered by a 1.5-litre SOHC i-VTEC engine carried over from its predecessor, the new City, depending on variant, can be fitted with class-leading equipment such as six airbags, stability control, ISOFIX, keyless entry, cruise control, touchscreen interface and rear air-con vents.

Even before the City’s launch, Honda Malaysia had already recorded a 30% year-on-year increase in first quarter sales largely propelled by strong demand for the Accord and CR-V. With the City now in the picture, Honda Malaysia is confident of hitting its targeted sales total sales volume of 76,000 units in 2014.
