Citroen DS3 Launched in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Feb 2014 – Since Naza Euro Motors were appointed a little over a year ago as the official distributors for Citroen in Malaysia (January 2013), it has launched two models in the DS line, the DS4, and DS5. The third and final model is the smaller, DS3, launched at the Bangsar Shopping complex amidst much fanfare.
The Citroen DS3, offered here in Malaysia as a 3-door hatch is a Supermini, B-segment car, not as powerful as the DS4 or DS5, but is an entry level car for those who may be moving up to a European make for the first time. Attractively priced, and of great specifications, the DS3 will be competing directly with the Mini Cooper base model, but with a distinct price advantage, at RM117,888 (on-the-road price).
It is a ‘cute’ little car, with a unique-looking B-pillar, and from the overall shape, you will easily know what it is built to compete with. With an overall length of 3.95m, a width of 1.71m, and standing 1.46m high, it is a compact car that would be quite nippy in an urban setting. With a kerb weight of 1,164 kg, it is heavier than some of its Japanese competitors, but it comes with a great list of features. Whatever the case, it has a refreshing and ‘young’ look that is likely to swing the younger set towards it, the main being the unique ‘shark fin’ B-pillar design.
At the launch, Dato Samson Anand George, COO of Naza Euro motors said, “The entrance of the Citroen DS3 into the Malaysian market completes the Citroen DS line which evokes expertise, style and technology inscribed with the DNA of innovation and distinction. The depth of details, vibrancy and technology make the Citroen DS3 an imposing B-segment car on Malaysian roads.”
The Citroen comes with a 1.6 litre naturally aspirated gasoline engine delivering 120 horsepower and 160 Nm of torque. The goodies package includes ABS with EBD and EBA, six airbags, ESP, cruise control, ISOFIX, and even a gear change indicator. Top speed is 190 kph, while acceleration from zero to 100 kph is 10.9 seconds (manufacturer claim). Fuel consumption is mooted at 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres.
Suspension is Macpherson struts in front, and a torsion beam at the rear, while drive is to the front wheels.
On paper, the Citroen DS3 specifications looks good, and visually it is just as impressive. Now all we have to do is wait for a test car – I hope it is not too long a wait, because the last Citroen I tested was the Picasso, a good four years ago.
