Four first-gen Nissan X-Trails recalled
Due to the use of common suppliers, the recent passenger airbag inflator recall that affected 18,700 units of the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Camry in Malaysia is also affecting 480,000 Nissan vehicles made from August 2000 to January 2004, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. announced recently. Models affected by the recall are the Cube, X-Trail, Teana, and Maxima.
Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd has released an announcement stating that locally assembled units of the first-generation T30 X-Trail are unaffected by the recall. There are, however, four CBU units of this model running around the country, the four of them are being recalled to check and, if necessary, replace the potential faulty front passenger air bag inflators.
Tan Chong’s service arm, TCEAS, has identified the affected units and will contact their respective owners to make necessary arrangements to facilitate the inspection and replacement of defective components. All parts and labour costs will be free-of-charge.
There was no mention, however, if any of the small numbers of J31 Teana models brought into Malaysia were affected by the recall.
