Chevrolet Orlando launched in Malaysia

Chevrolet Orlando launched in Malaysia

by -

Having just stepped into the entry-level B-segment market with the Sonic, Chevrolet’s product portfolio in Malaysia widens once again with the Orlando MPV that was launched just today. Based on the Cruze’s GM Delta II platform, the Orlando enters a relatively unoccupied segment of the MPV market, with the Volkswagen CrossTouran, Proton Exora, and Peugeot 5008 being the only other MPVs of comparable body size.

Fully imported from Korea, the Orlando’s case is nevertheless strengthened considerably by a competitive price tag that reads RM118,888 retail, although on-road costs and insurance will most certainly push the final figure just beyond RM120k. For the money, you get an MPV with seats for seven and space for 1,499 litres of luggage with the second and third row of seats folded down.

Mechanical components are largely shared with the Cruze, with the 1,796cc Ecotec twin-cam engine providing 141hp @ 6,200rpm and 176Nm @ 3,800rpm to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual override control. This setup, Chevrolet claims, is able to propel the Orlando to a 185kph top speed and a century sprint time of 11.8 seconds whilst consuming fuel at a rate of 7.9 l/100km in the combined cycle, a figure that is interestingly lower than what is quoted for the Sonic 1.4.

Other carryover components from the Cruze include the hydraulic assisted power steering, all-round disc brakes, and a suspension setup that combines MacPherson struts up front with a torsion beam at the back. Standard tyres measure 215/60 R16, but have been upsized to 225/50 R17 for the Malaysian market.

Standard equipment in the sole LT trim offered for Malaysia include reach & rake steering adjust, cruise control, auto climate control, reverse sensors, ABS, EBD, traction control, stability control, dual airbags, and ISOFIX mounts. The standard integrated audio system features CD and MP3 playback with USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Orlando is offered with a 5-year / 200,000km warranty and oil changes, in Chevrolet’s own words, are set at ‘15,000km intervals – only with GM Tech Dexos Oil at any Chevrolet authorized service centres’.
