Kia Optima set for 27 Dec launch
Naza Kia Malaysia has officially confirmed that the all-new Kia Optima K5 will be launched for the Malaysian market at the end of this year, on 27 December to be specific, at the brand’s new flagship Kia Red Cube showroom situated along Federal Highway.
The Optima made its world debut at the New York Motor Show last year, and has went on to become a global success for Kia. As of 30 Nov 2011, it accounted for 17% of Kia’s sales in the United States with 73,886 units sold. Awards under its name include the iF Product Design Award 2011, Cars.com’s Best of 2011, Top Safety Pick by the US-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Auto123.com 2012 Mid-Size Car of the Year.
Only one engine choice was mentioned in a pre-launch release by Naza-Kia, and it is the familiar 2.0-litre Theta II engine found in several Hyundai-Kia models in the Malaysian market. Kia quotes output figures of 163hp and 198Nm, with the engine being mated to the company’s in-house 6-speed automatic transmission.
As we have come to expect from Kia, the Optima will be generously equipped, and items included as standard feature are auto-levelling HID xenon headlamps, LED daytime running headlights, dual-zone auto air-conditioner, leather trim, panoramic sun roof, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, auto cruise control, 18-inch alloy wheels, six airbags and ESP. Prices have not been mentioned.
