Isuzu D-Max 2.5 now available with 4×4 drivetrain
You may regard Isuzu as something of a one-model wonder in Malaysia, but impressively, the D-Max pick-up has been single-handedly keeping the company’s operations in our shores afloat. The D-Max’s mechanical robustness and fuel economy are well-documented as it is a popular choice by many to be business workhorses.
What the D-Max does not lack is the number of variants it has available, from 2.5 to 3.0-litre engine displacement, along with the options of manual and automatic transmission; 4×2 and 4×4; single cab and double cab. Yesterday, another new variant was added to the mix, and it’s the 2.5-litre 4×4 with manual transmission.
Speaking at the launch in Kuala Lumpur, CEO of Isuzu Malaysia Takashi Hata said, “The new D-Max is aimed at the smart motorist who appreciates the technological advancements made in pick-up truck technology yet demands its core strengths of versatility and toughness. Owners will find a very refined and smooth engine, impressive engine response and even greater fuel economy with the new D-Max.”
Hata added that motorists now have a comprehensive selection of D-Max models to choose from to suit their lifestyle and business needs, saying that, “There is now a D-Max that will fulfill all the needs and desires of a pick-up driver be it for business or pleasure. Undoubtedly, whatever the choice, owners drive away with one of the most fuel efficient, durable and reliable pick-up trucks in the market today.”
Compared to the existing D-Max 2.5-litre 4×2, the 4×4 gets a significant power boost, with the 2,499cc 4JK-1 direct-injected turbodiesel engine making 114hp @ 3,600rpm and 280Nm @ 1,800 – 2,200rpm. The 5-speed manual transmission paired to the engine is all new and works in tandem with Isuzu’s Touch-On-The-Fly 4WD system function at speeds up to 100kph.
Equipment levels on the 2.5 4×4 D-Max includes ABS, EBD, dual airbags, 2-DIN audio, and trip computer. Early buyers also get to enjoy a “Smart Saver” package where customers who purchase a double-cab D-Max will be entitled to a free Garmin GPS and a cash rebate. The offer is subject to terms and conditions, lasting only till 30 November 2010.
