Winners of Paint My Ride charity-based competition announced
The Narine Poverty Reduction Initiative (NAPOREE), today announced the winners of the Paint My Ride charity competition in a simple presentation ceremony held at 1 Utama shopping centre in Petaling Jaya.
Running from mid-December to 31 January 2010, the Paint My Ride contest called for participants to design a decorative outer skin for the Lamborghini Gallardo. Each entry commands a RM500 participation fee, all of which goes to various micro-projects under the Poverty Reduction Programme organized by NAPOREE.
Ten finalists were gathered at the ceremony in 1U, where the top five winners were announced – two honorary mentions followed by third, second, and first prizes. Designs from the top three entries were showed live on actual units of the Lamborghini Gallardo that were unveiled on the spot.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, organizing chairman Dr Rodwin Bahadur noted, “With more than 65 participants submitting their designs to this competition the judging was a difficult task. It helped tremendously that we had five talented judges and the judging process was objective and individual to ensure the best designs were selected.”
The five judges mentioned by Dr Bahadur included Dato Azman Yahya, Alex Yoong, Huang Ean Hwa, Edmund Choe, and Dr Bahadur himself, who served as chief judge. According to Dr Bahadur, judging was held in a way that none of the judges knew the scores of of the other, ensuring as fair a judgment as possible for the winners.
Two honorable mentions went to Adora Chloe George and Chow Kok Quinn, who each picked up RM500 cash and will be driven around the Sepang International Circuit in a GT race car by a professional driver.
Third prize went to Wong Wai Ho, who pocketed a cash prize of RM1,000, while second-placed Jet Lee went home with RM3,000. The first-prize of RM5,000 went to a disbelieving Firdauz Ridzuan bin Baharuddin. The three of them will also get a chance to drive the Lamborghini Gallardo around the SIC. Additionally, by virtue of being students, Firdauz and Jet will also be receiving internship opportunities at an accredited advertising agency for four to six weeks.
All of the submitted designs can be viewed hi-res at the Paint My Ride website (www.paintmyride.org), while the top three designs, skinned by vehicle graphics specialists Motorsport Playground, are currently on display at 1U until 18 April, before they are moved to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur on 23 – 25 April.
Visitors to the displays can also do their part to the charitable cause by purchasing pictures of themselves taken with any one of the Lamborghinis by a professional photographer. Just don’t scratch the cars when you stand next to them.
